The Juliano Journal

Week of March 14-18

Dear Families,

Happy Friday! What a beautiful week we have had!

The students have worked so hard on the past five PARCC tests that we have taken. I am so proud of the effort that they are all putting forth. They are really taking their time to answer the questions to the best of their ability. Way to go, 3J! As another reminder, here is a schedule of remaining PARCC tests:

  • Monday, March 21st- Math 2
  • Wednesday, March 23rd- Math 3
  • Tuesday, April 5th- Math 4

Thank you for making sure your child gets a good night's sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and arrives to school on time for testing days.

If you have not already done so, please log into ParentVue to activate your child's progress report. I cannot believe we are already in third trimester!

Have a fantastic weekend! :)

Miss Juliano

Curriculum News

Language Arts

Last week we began discussing traditional literature. Our focus is on myths, fables, and folktales. We have spent the last two weeks reading stories and classifying them as a myth, fable, or folktale. The students also learned how to use the plot of a story to determine the lesson, or moral. The students are really enjoying reading short stories and writing about what the characters learned!

We have spent much of this week reviewing multiplication and division. Students practiced solving multiplication/division fact families, as well as puzzles. We also played multiplication bingo, which was a hit! We also discussed why parentheses are included in number sentences, and solved number stories involving parentheses, making sure to calculate what it is inside the parentheses first!

Next week we will conclude our unit on multiplication and division with an assessment on Thursday.

Social Studies

We have spent time reading Chapter 7, How Are We Alike Around the World? In this chapter, students read about the lives of six children who live in different countries. Students then compared and contrasted their lives with the kids, looking for similarities and differences. Students displayed their information on venn diagrams.
