News for the week...
Welcome from Sean-
Hello Oley Valley Staff,
I am looking forward to starting work with you all in the coming weeks as an Assistant Principal at Oley Valley High School. While it is bittersweet to be moving on from the West Chester Area School District after 9+ years, I am excited about the new opportunities ahead at Oley Valley. Being certified to teach in both secondary Social Studies and middle grades Math and having worked in West Chester’s gifted, math, and social studies departments over the years, I feel I’ve had a unique experience preparing for this role. I’ll be happy to expand upon my experiences if you’re interested in knowing more as we get to know one another.
One of the things that drew me to Oley Valley is the community aspect of the district. As I looked into the school and went through the interview process, that was one of the main things which stood out to me – the students I spoke with during my last interview even all agreed (at times a rare occurrence among high school students) that it as one of the strengths of the school. I look forward to getting to know more about the school, the community which has grown around it, and the most important component in keeping that community moving in a positive direction – the school’s staff. I’m keeping this brief as I appreciate it’s a busy time for all with 1stquarter ending but know that I’m excited about all that is ahead in the coming weeks and months. Looking forward to meeting you all,
- Sean Ryan

Fire Drill Exit Plan (revised after safety committee meeting):
Please see attachment for our November drill. We are looking for feedback with the revised document. Again, we were very happy with the noise level in October. But we are looking to decrease our time for this monthly drill. We will also discuss as a whole group on Friday.
Lockdown Information
We will be conducting a Lockdown Drill on Tuesday 10/30/18 at 1:30 PM. The expectations for the drill are:
1. All doors are secured by locking the door.
2. Students are moved to an area away from the door and out of sight from the intruder.
3. Students stay calm and are silent.
4. We will NOT be barricading or leaving the classrooms during this drill.
5. Teacher MAY discuss the different options to students while the drill is happening - "We may need to barricade" or "we would leave the classroom and head outside in this situation".
The drill should last approximately 10 minutes as all doors and classrooms will be checked by administration during the drill.
Please let Colleen or I know if you have any questions.
Dot Project:
Please see attached spreadsheet of dot project results. This was the "3 thing" project we completed during our in-service time together earlier this month.
Technology Survey:
Please remember this district survey is due at the end of the day today (10/26).
