November 9, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
I am a native Minnesotan and when the weather starts to change, as it has recently, I feel like we are truly back to school. I believe this is probably because I spent most of the school year during my formative years in winter clothing! Oh, and we walked uphill both ways to and from school.
Hyperbole aside, we have 14 days remaining in Trimester 1. This is what really makes me feel like we are in the thick of the school year. Our teachers are working to ensure students have opportunities to demonstrate high levels of learning and remain focused through to the end of the trimester. We want to start second trimester on a positive trajectory.
Our fall teams, activities, and clubs are wrapping up their fall seasons and there is a lot to be proud of. The fall play was excellent. Several fall sports had successful seasons, and many student clubs are providing students with strong co-curricular experiences and opportunities. Approximately 80 percent of our student population is involved in some school-based activity, sport, or club. We are proud of our student involvement and the sense of belonging and community it fosters in our school.
If you know anyone exploring high school options, please share upcoming Tour and Talk event information with them. We have events coming up at the high school and for families looking at preschool and kindergarten options. Check out and share the Tour and Talk webpage.
Please take time to review the resources and related stories in the newsletter. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we build bright futures together. One school, one community, SLPPantherProud!

Flu alert
Flu season is here. Along with the rest of Minnesota, Spring Lake Park Schools is experiencing an increase in flu and flu-like illness. Please help keep our community healthy. Continue to practice good hand hygiene and keep your student home when they are sick.
Advance notice: Expect notifications for negative meal account balances
With meals no longer free this school year, families whose student's meal account balance is negative $5 and below will begin receiving weekly notifications. Starting this evening, notifications will be sent by email and text message each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Support during upcoming holidays
It's that time of year when a variety of different holidays are approaching. If you celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas and need some extra support during this upcoming season, there may be programs within our district or local community where we can connect families. Please reach out to Whitney Booth, the Social Worker & Community Resource Liaison at 763-600-5227 for more information.
