EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of May 2, 2021
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Hello,
This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers are recognized for their dedication to their students where each day they empower, inspire, and motivate them to exceed their potentials. This past year certainly has been full of much change and adjustments. We are thankful for our teachers and their ability to be flexible, adjust to how to teach in the virtual world, and at the same time, maintain relationships with their students both in-person and virtual. During this week we will also celebrate National Nurses Day on May 6th. We are equally grateful for our nurses who have assisted us with the changing pandemic protocols. Thank you all for your passion and service! #EHTPride!
I am proud to say that the first week of five days of school went exceptionally well. It is so nice to become closer to normalcy. Our elementary students (Grades K-5) return to five full days of school with breakfast/lunch being served in the cafeterias and adhering to 6 feet of social distancing to the greatest extent practicable. Our Secondary students (Grades 6-12) and Pre School returned to school in person for five abbreviated days. The reason at this time is we do not have the space for safe social distancing to occur during lunches but more importantly, the academic enhancement/assistance that is occurring in the afternoon sessions is showing us success among the students served. Interventions (virtual and in person) that are in place for students identified via the Response to Intervention process, Intervention and Referral Services, Individualized Educational Plans, 504s, and English Language Learners, that occur in Small Group Instruction (SGI) schedule in the afternoons are successfully assisting students academically, providing support for SEL, and remediating/ credit completion/attendance. Until further notice, and until we can analyze more data, teachers and students will continue to meet virtually and in-person for small groups in the afternoons. Data results indicate that 66.6 % of our students will be returning to in-person instruction and 33.4% will be learning virtually.
We will continue to serve over 15,000 meals to all EHT students (in and out of district). The High School and Alder Middle School cafeterias are used as prepping and storage areas for these meals. Distribution centers for virtual students are posted on our social media pages. In -person learners will receive their free breakfast and lunch in school.
I thank all of the parents for being patient during this unprecedented time and with the many areas of change. Every step of the EHT Road Forward has been well thought out and precisely planned with our students’ best interests in mind. We have worked hard to get everyone back into the buildings safely. In areas where we cannot, we have spent time evaluating the operations of the entire district and met with stakeholders to come up with the relevant plans that have been put in place. I can assure you that we will continue to evaluate and plan accordingly.

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. Together, we can achieve more!
