News from this week

I hope everyone had a good and restful Thanksgiving break! I know I did. It was nice to relax and spend time with my family.

We are approaching the last 2 weeks of the 2nd quarter. We will be finishing up several units, including our fractions unit in Math, the Road to Revolution in Social Studies, and our informational writing project. We will also be taking the end of quarter District Assessments. Here is the schedule for those assessments:

Monday, Dec. 7 - Science

Tuesday, Dec. 8 - Social Studies

Monday, Dec. 14 - Language Arts

Tuesday, Dec. 15 - Math

Next week we will also be visiting the Holiday Shoppe on Tuesday, December 8 from 9:10-9:30. This is a great opportunity for students to buy gifts for loved ones and friends for the holiday season. Make sure to send in money with your child Tuesday morning if you want your child to buy some gifts. Our winter class party is also scheduled for Friday, December 18 at 10:15. We will have pizza and Mrs. Gotvald is planning some activities.

Congratulations to Emily Jay! She will be representing our class in our school Spelling Bee in January. Danielle Stivers is our runner up, in case Emily is not able to participate. Both young ladies did an excellent job in our class Spelling Bee!

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Coming up next week

Other Important Information

Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team

All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join the Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team. Witzzle Pro is a thinking game that uses multiple math operations. Players roll the dice to get a target number, and try to find that target number on the Witzzle Pro card using three numbers in a row. Players score points for correct answers, and the player with the most points is the winner. This mind-sharpening and fun number game is designed to help students improve their mental math ability. The Witzzle Pro team practices on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7:15 am. Practice will start on Friday, December 4th. Team members will compete in the Brookwood Cluster Witzzle Pro Tournament on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 here at Gwin Oaks Elementary School. The school winner will go on to compete at the Gwinnett County Tournament.
