Student Employee Requirements:
· Must be in good standing academically, and with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Residence Life and University Conduct Policies.
· Must be at sophomore status or higher by February 2016, with a 2.7 Cum GPA or higher.
· Must demonstrate exceptional leadership skills that include: integrity, patience, excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and strong verbal communication skills.
· Must have hands-on volunteer and/or work experience and like working with middle and high school students from economically-disadvantaged and diverse cultural backgrounds.
· Must live in the residence halls with program participants and able to chaperone and tutor 24 hours a day.
Preferred Requirements:
· Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong (preferred)
· Students majoring in one of the following areas of study: Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Resources, Business/Accounting, or Nursing/Pre-Med (preferred).

Dr. Michelle Kuhl, associate professor of History at UWO, will briefly discuss the years 1619 to 1965, examining how African Americans developed creative strategies to overcome oppression and infuse their lives with dignity. This talk will look at how great individuals and groups of ordinary people worked to resist exploitation and make America live up to its promise. Emmet Sandberg, assistant professor of Art at UWO, will briefly discuss the importance of collaborative engagement, socially engaged art, and why it is beneficial for us (particularly students) to have an active role in the creation and development of memorial-based art projects

The workshop is designed to equip participants with actionable steps used by Dr. King during the Civil Rights Movement, through thoughtful and strategic methodologies.
Opportunity to be certified to judge high school forensics

Individuals interested in becoming a certified high school forensics/speech adjudicator (judge) can attend a workshop at UW-Oshkosh, Wednesday Feb. 3,2016, 5-7:30 p.m., being taught by Prof. Kay Neal. In order to attend the workshop, individuals must first complete a 2-hour online tutorial, available at http://learn.whsfa.org (select "Initial Speech Adjudicator Training," and on the right-hand side of the screen, Create a New Account on the site). UW-Oshkosh students pay a special reduced fee of $25 -- if they pay by check, which should be made payable to WHSFA. Be sure to select "Pay by Check" when enrolling in the online course, unless paying by credit card through PayPal, which is $36.50.
