Aiming to Keep You Informed
November 13, 2020
From the Office
Next Friday, November 20th, marks the end of the 1st Trimester. With Parent-Teacher conference days and the Thanksgiving Holiday during the following week, teachers will have until December 4th to complete the grading process. Please check with your child if they have any missing assignments or assessments to complete prior to November 20th.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be sent home the week of December 7th. Grades can be accessed throughout the trimester, by logging into Otus for 6th graders and PowerSchool for 7th and 8th graders. Please contact one of your child's teachers if you have specific questions regarding student grades.
Academic Honors Recognition
For 7th and 8th graders, we will continue to use their grade point average (GPA) to determine Honor Roll eligibility. All 7th & 8th graders who qualify for Highest Honors (3.8 - 4.0), High Honors (3.5 - 3.79), and Honors (3.2 - 3.49) based on their 1st trimester GPA will receive a corresponding Honors ribbon with their report cards and their names will be displayed in our main hallway.
For 6th graders we will be shifting to a new format, that recognizes students yearly who demonstrate excellence in a combination of academics, citizenship, and effort. With our transition to Standards-Based grading, we will no longer have a GPA for 6th graders to determine Honors eligibility. Staff members will collaborate to nominate a list of students in 6th grade for the 1st trimester and each trimester more names will be added to the Honor Roll. All 6th grade students who are selected will receive an Honors ribbon and their names will be displayed in our main hallway. More information on the new format will be shared.
Supply Pick-up: We have designated our Early-Release Wednesdays, from 2:00-5:00PM, for general supply pick-up. If your child has items to pick up this Wednesday, November 18th, please expect notification from a teacher. If you are unable to stop in during that time, please contact the Main Office to make an appointment. We are unable to accommodate drop-ins in the front foyer at this time. Thank you for your understanding!
Symptoms/Close contacts: Parents, please keep your child home if your child exhibits any COVID-like symptoms or is in close contact with other family members and friends who are exhibiting symptoms or who have tested positive for COVID-19. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical care immediately.
If your child has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the child at home for 14 days and notify your primary healthcare provider, Westfield Middle School, and DuPage County Health Department.
We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy environment. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation!
