BULLDOG BULLETIN

New Britton Elementary

April 15, 2022

I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!

News from Mrs. Mankin

Dear Bulldog Families,

We hope that your spring break was just what you needed it to be and that the transition back to school was a smooth one! Our classes celebrated spring today with an early Earth Day celebration. Students engaged in conversation and activities regarding science-related topics: reducing-reusing-recycling, the plant life cycle, gardening, building, and beautifying outdoor spaces. They also had some extra time outside to enjoy this beautiful, windy weather. We would like to thank our room parents/volunteers who planned and executed our parties today - a special thank you to Mrs. Soehngen for organizing this special day!

This week our 4th grade Math Bowl team, led by Mr. Temple, competed at the district meet. They not only received the winning score at this meet, but they were also named the Indiana State Champions. We are Bulldog Proud of this team! Their dedication and hard work were noted by all as well as their enthusiasm for math and encouragement of each other.

The week after spring break signifies that the end of the school year is quickly approaching. We are already making plans for the 2022-2023 school year. In fact, we just hosted our Kindergarten Open House last night. We would like to thank our teachers, PTO members, Student Council, and other Bulldog team members who stayed last night to welcome new families. I am always so excited and proud to introduce others to our Bulldog Learning Community. If your family has an incoming kindergarten student or you have friends or neighbors who do, please be sure to use and/or share the registration link below to enroll your student. At the beginning of next week, we will be sending an "Intent-to-Return" form to families. We ask that you complete a form for each student in your family (grades K-3) who will be returning to New Britton next school year. This information is very helpful as we are planning and creating classes. We will once again be offering supply kits through our PTO; that information will be sent to you soon.

Have a restful weekend. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.

Sincerely,

Lori Mankin

ILEARN State Testing

Indiana students in grades 3-8 will take the standardized assessment called ILEARN. ILEARN is Indiana’s multiple day, online assessment designed to measure your child’s proficiency of the Indiana Academic Standards. The difficulty of the test will adjust to each student’s skills within their grade level providing a better snapshot of each student. Students in Grade 3 will be testing in English Language Arts and Math. while students in Grade 4 will be tested in English Language Arts, Math and Science. Students will practice the assessment the week of April 11th. The testing window runs from April 18th-May 6th. It is important that students in Grades 3 and 4 are in attendance during this window as they will be testing over multiple days.

Students will need their fully-charged ipads and headphones for ILEARN. To prepare your child’s iPad, please download the “SecureTestBrowser” app. The app can be found here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/airsecuretest/id607002517

Please install this app on your 3rd or 4th grade student’s iPad prior to the practice test.

If you have a rental iPad or you enrolled your BYO iPad into our Manger system, we will automatically push this app to your child’s iPad.

Support our Library

Are you looking for a way to support the NBE library? If so, we have a program called Support our Library! Using the link below, you can choose a book to donate to our library. You have the option to donate the book in honor of a teacher, a student for his/her birthday, or just for the fun of reading! These books are library bound books and come processed...which means they are ready for the shelf and checkout to students as soon are they arrive at NBE. If you choose to donate a book to our library, Mrs. Williams will share the book first with your child's class. Thanks for being willing to Support our Library!!

FYAP Snack Attack Program

NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.

Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.

There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Sherri Leiner, NBE School Counselor at sleiner@hse.k12.in.us
