3rd Grade RtI Enrichment
Taking reading to a new level.
Rules For My Classroom
1. Be Respectful. We do a ton of collaboration on projects in this class, so respect is a must. Respectful of the items we are using. Respectful of the room and it's surroundings. Respectful of each other.
2. Be Positive. Being positive is all about how you are looking at things. Sometimes whatever the problem is the only thing you have the power of changing is how you look at it. Check your negativity at my door because I will not allow it. It does nothing for creativity and problem solving and can actually work against us.
3. Persevere: continue in the course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success. Failing is part of learning. We didn't come into this world running. You fell down and got right back up. Keep this in mind when we are trying new things.
4. Encourage: Part of the reason people can stay positive and persevere through things is because of encouragement. Encourage each other as well as myself with what we are trying to accomplish.
5. Try. It's that simple. Try your very best. You will never know unless you try, so we must.
6. Pick up and put away. Part of respecting our room is picking up and putting things back where we found them. These are community supplies and there are many more students that need to use these supplies, so we must pick up and put away at the end of our time.
7. Listen and read carefully. Instructions are vital to projects and it is a must to listen and read carefully when both hearing and reading instructions. Do not talk when the teacher is talking.
STEM in the Classroom
Science
Technology
Engineering
Math
The projects that we do in RtI Enrichment are projects that incorporate all four of these subject areas. STEM problems usually give a problem along with a specific set of materials for solving such problems. These guidelines, whether it is in the list of materials or time or work space keep everyone on the same page or playing field. It is within these guidelines that we find many solutions. You will find that with some problems there are many solutions or "answers".
Roles and Responsibilities
In these groups I typically have four people with four different roles that rotate by day. They are:
The Foreman
The Designer
The Researcher
The Builder
Each person in the group will get to work in each of these positions on each project. We rotate daily based upon the schedule that we make. If someone is absent, The Foreman takes on their workload and responsibility. If the Foreman is gone AND someone else is gone, that means there are only two people there and you will need to divide the work evenly.
You will have a folder for each position and the folder is where you will keep your work from the day for the next person.
