The Danger of the Single Story
Dear Cougar Family,
At this point, you've spent six weeks with your "kids." You know which students are high achievers, those who are passionate about the subject you teach, who will be reluctant at first but will stick with the hard concepts as long as they know you are sticking with them. I could list a thousand variations of the types of students we teach, but that would oversimplify the complexity of the human experience.
Therefore, I want to take a moment to remind you of our Culturally Relevant Teaching professional development in August, especially Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “The Danger of a Single Story.” In her TedTalk, she reminds us of the danger of making assumptions about others. Please take a minute to read this blog post that refers to Adichie's talk as a refresher. The entire video is also included.
Think about the following questions: Are there students in your class who you are assigning a single story? What are your next steps to learn more about them? How will you address the whole child and allow students to see themselves reflected in the curriculum this six weeks?
Have an incredible week! And, as always, COUGAR PRIDE!
Tiffany
October 9th Staff Development Schedule
October 11th-PSAT Day
Test Training for October 11 will take place during staff development on Monday, 10/9. For your planning purposes, I have linked 2 files below.
This is the list of rooms that will be used for testing. Rooms are listed numerically. Please check the list carefully to see if your classroom is on the list. The list includes how many desks need to be in the room (if you have more than what is listed, no worries!). All desks much face the same direction. More specifically, for the PSAT, all desks much be spaced so that students are 4 feet apart from one another (measure from the center of one desk to the center of another). Thank you in advance for having your desks test-ready before 3:50 PM on Tuesday.
This is the schedule for Wednesday.
