Get Out and Celebrate Culture
Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra
A few weeks ago Keystone Learning Coaches, Ms. Megan Strittmatter and Mrs. Aubree Kresch attended a performance by the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra. Did Keystone fly them to Poland? Certainly not! The best thing about this performance is that it was held a mere five minutes from Keystone's office!
Now most of you reading this right now probably aren't too familiar with Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania but it is a smaller, more rural area of Northeastern Pennsylvania. There isn't a lot of cultural diversity in Bloomsburg or in its surrounding areas but that doesn't mean there aren't any opportunities to celebrate other cultures.
Thankfully the local university has a great arts department. As part of their Celebrity Artist Series they bring in performers from all over the world!
What about you? Look into places in your community that present opportunities like this!
City Hall
Find out the ancestry of the town you live in by taking a look in the city archives. See how many different cultural influences had been collecting over the years to make it the town it is today.
Museum
Visit a local museum and learn about the specific culture you are a part of and its history, or another one. Sometimes museums even have interactive activities and/or shows that you can be a part of!
Library
Make it a goal to explore a new culture every month. Your local library will have lots of resources for you to start off with.
Remember Keystone has students all over the world! Another way to learn more about other cultures is by interacting with your peers!
