Charger Check-In
October 13, 2023
A Note from Ms. Owens
Last Friday, SCA faculty and staff participated in EBRS (Escape, Barricade, Resist, Survive) Training from Beacon Training Group. A number of families have asked what the training involved. If you scroll down a bit, you will see a promotional video from Beacon Training Group. The training was intense, hands-on and very empowering. (We didn't go out any windows!) Thank you to the School Advisory Board for making us aware of this opportunity and for providing lunch for us that day.
Our all-school Walk-a-Thon is tomorrow. It is quite likely that we will have rain, so we have a rain plan that will have students walking in school for a shorter amount of time. We will still have a hot dog lunch and a popsicle treat from the School Advisory Board. We will still have a DJ and fun time at the end of the day. Students are welcome to wear their Walk-a-thon t-shirt, any other SCA shirt/sweatshirt, school-appropriate bottoms (e.g., shorts, sweats, joggers, leggings, jeans) and gym shoes.
- The lunch will include an all-beef hot dog and a bag of Lay's potato chips for lunch. The hot dog buns are from Aunt Millie's Bakery. Here is their allergen information. We will have hot dogs with no buns for students who have a gluten-free diet or who have a sesame allergy.
- Students who normally get milk will be able to have milk.
- Last week, I asked families of students who have food dye and/or fruit allergies to complete a short Google Form. As of Thursday, October 12 at 6:40PM, there are no responses to the form and it has been closed.
On Friday, November 17, there will be NO extended care so we can safely facilitate the set up for that evening's Holiday Wishes Vendor Fair.
Thank you to all the SCA friends and family who visited Andy's for last month's Eat & Earn. Your participation raised over $200 for FSA. October's Eat & Earn is at Raising Cane's (111th & Cicero) on Monday, October 23 from 4-8PM.
We haven't celebrated our Grandfriends since the winter of 2020. We are so happy to bring back an event that invites these special people to spend some time in classes with our students. We will have Grandfriends' Afternoon on Wednesday, October 18. Please scroll down for more details.
A Bit More News...

Grandfriends' Afternoon - Wednesday, October 18
We are so excited to welcome our grandfriends to visit St. Catherine on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 18. Grandfriends will be able to visit classrooms beginning at 1:30 that afternoon.
- First visiting session: 1:30-1:50
- Passing period/transition: 1:50-2:00
- Second visiting session: 2:00-2:20
- Grandfriends exit the building: 2:20-2:30
Grandfriends who have more than two classrooms to visit can move between rooms mid-session.
If students are going home with grandfriends, we ask that they meet their students outside at regular dismissal at 2:45.
If a grandfriend is visiting a PK3 or PK4 classroom, we encourage them to visit that room during the 2:00-2:20 session since our youngest students have rest time in the afternoon.
We will have a small token of thanks to hand to the grandfriends as they exit the building.
A Note from the Nurse
Please be aware that in accordance with Illinois state law, a valid Certificate of Child Health Examination must be submitted to St. Catherine no later than October 15. Again, this is only for those students mentioned in the above paragraph.
