Sonora Elementary Mission and Vision
Mission
Sonora Elementary’s mission is to provide a safe community where high levels of learning are ensured for ALL.
Vision
The vision of Sonora Elementary School is to provide a future of opportunities in a rapidly changing world through an inclusive environment that: ensures children learn essential standards, encourages ALL to persevere when faced with challenges, and empowers students through choice and voice. To live this reality we believe that the most promising strategy is to develop our capacity to be a professional learning community. We envision a school in which staff:
Unite to achieve a common purpose.
Work interdependently in collaborative teams.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to the academic success and general well-being of each student.
A Note from Dr. Stewman
Over the past few weeks teachers and the Student Support Team have given assessments to students regarding phonemic awareness, phonics, reading and foundational math skills. Time has been built into the daily schedule to ensure that we provide EVERY child with the appropriate intervention or extension in reading and math to achieve at high levels. As always, thank you immensely for entrusting your children to us!
We want to make sure that we provide ways to keep your families engaged and updated about school events. In addition to this monthly newsletter, you should have some type of connection to your child's grade level or teacher. If not, please feel free to email me so I can get you connected for a successful year.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email me (rstewman@sdale.org). I am here to help make your child's educational experience the best it can possibly be!
SAVE THE DATE
On Thursday, September 14th we will host a Literacy Night! We want all our Scholars to attend. We are still finalizing details. More details will be coming soon! We hope you make plans to join us.

Kindergarten Snacks
Dear Kindergarten Parents,
We hope this letter finds you well. We are thrilled to share an exciting new addition to our classroom routine - introducing snack time! We will soon be implementing a short and instructional snack break during our kindergarten classes. To support this mission we kindly request a contribution of $10 per child.
Your contributions can be submitted in cash or through the attached envelope, clearly labeled with your child's name and class. If you want to support another student by sending in an additional monetary donation, please mark that as well.
If you have any concerns or dietary considerations, please feel free to reach out to us so that we can make necessary arrangements.
Thank you for your continued support in making our classroom an engaging and enriching space for our students.
Warm regards,
Your Sonora Elementary Kindergarten Teachers
Don't forget to label your child's clothing.
Remember to label your child's clothing, especially backpacks, jackets, coats. We want to make sure that if an item loses the owner, we can reunite them. Here is an article on multiple ways to label clothes.
If you haven't paid for school supplies, please do so by September 15th.

W.I.S.E. Scholars
The purpose of a School-Wide Behavior Matrix is to identify and display positive behaviors across all school contexts and settings. It is a reference that helps the school community consistently reinforce our set of key behavioral expectations during our students' daily routines. Below is the current matrix, but our team will be monitoring it all year to make any necessary adjustments. We want all our Scholars to be WISE! This is also how we are doing our student recognitions this year. Watch for those posts on our social media each Friday.
Our mission statement is high learning for ALL! Please use this form to nominate a staff member who exemplifies our mission of high learning ! Each recipient will receive a certificate, be announced on the morning announcements, and posted on social media. We will recognize our students with the 'W.I.S.E.' as they are nominated by teachers or peers. #theresnoplacelikesonora
