Principal's Message

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that we have reimagined our Back-to-School Open House to accommodate the busy schedules of our families better and to provide a more personalized experience.

This year, our Open House will adopt a flexible Drop-In Model. You can come by at your convenience (with your child if you choose) during the Open House hours (6:30 - 7:30) to explore our campus, tour classrooms, and speak directly with teachers and staff.

What to Expect:

  • Flexible Timing: Drop in anytime between 6:30 and 7:30 to suit your schedule.

  • Classroom Visits: Visit your childโ€™s classroom(s) and get a first-hand look at where they will be learning.

  • Curriculum Insights and Informational Materials: Collect information about our academic programs, extracurricular activities, and grade-level expectations.

  • Meet the Educators: Teachers will be available to answer your questions, share classroom goals, and discuss teaching methods.

  • Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday, September 21

  • Schedule:

    • 6:00 - 6:30 Welcome from Administration and PTO

    • 6:30 - 7:30 Visit your childโ€™s classroom(s) at your convenience

      • Related Arts teachers/ Specialists will be available in the Sawyer Wing in their teaching areas

We believe this format will allow for a more relaxed, personal interaction between families and staff and will allow you to get all the information you need to prepare for the new academic year.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Back-to-School Open House and are excited for the upcoming school year.

Yours in partnership,

Joel Bates,

Principal

Welcome Back to School From the Sawyer and Emerson Wing Health Offices!

FSS would like to welcome Nurse Audra Maria to our team! She is the new elementary school nurse for grades PK-5 and is located in the Emerson Wing Health Office, with our preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students. All medical documentation and questions concerning students in PK-5 should be directed to Nurse Audra, at amaria@nrsd.net, or at X5107.

Nurse Karin Frostholm will continue her role in the Sawyer Wing Health Office as the middle school nurse for grades 6-8, and all medical documentation and questions concerning students in these grades should be directed to Nurse Karin at kfrostholm@nrsd.net, or at X5103.

We look forward to working with you to help keep our school community healthy and engaged in learning this school year!

Please continue to instruct your child on the importance of proper handwashing, and the proper way to cover the mouth when coughing or sneezing!

As a reminder, following are the circumstances in which your child should stay home from school:

  • If your child is unable to participate fully in school activities because of illness

  • When your child has a contagious condition or a rash with an unknown cause

  • When your child has had a fever of 100ยฐF or more within the last 24 hours when not taking fever-reducing medications

  • If your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours or is unable to eat normally

  • If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat and has not been taking antibiotic medication or at least 24 hours

  • If your child requires medication for fever or ongoing pain relief

  • If your child has red/pink eyes with drainage

  • If your child has chicken pox, he or she must stay home until all lesions have scabbed over

  • If your child has active head lice he or she must be treated and be seen by the school nurse prior to returning to school

As always, please contact your school nurse if you have any questions about whether your child should attend school, or whether they can return to school. Please also contact us if your child has a change in their medical condition, or is prescribed a medication that needs to be administered in school.

We are here for you! Donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to us, and we are looking forward to a great school year!
