Message From The Superintendent
Earlier in the month, I had the pleasure of being a “Shark” for our 5th grade students. The students pitched inventions, in a fashion similar to what is on the popular TV show called Shark Tank, that they created in the Makerspace. It was the best part of my week.
The chance to interact with students reminded me of the fantastic students that we have in Columbus! The success from the individuals and school-sponsored groups seem endless. I remember reading recently about each adult generation having a perspective about “kids these days”. I think that phrase is usually said with a negative connotation. Being able to observe our students each day makes me wonder if it is better said in a different tone. I wonder if it is more appropriate to think on the lines of, “Wow, kids are amazing these days!”
There is no doubt that times have changed. I am confident that the world for students will continue to change, probably even quicker than ever before. As an entire district, though, I believe that supporting our students comes down to three basic ideas:
Student Care
Student Challenge
Student Commitment
Next week we will be honoring our wonderful staff during Staff Appreciation Week. They are the individuals that work hard to promote student care, challenge, and commitment. A team effort between staff, families, community, and students is what convinces me to look at the phrase “Kids these Days” in a positive context. Much like my time as a “Shark” a couple of weeks ago, I would confidently invest in the students of Columbus!

Inclement Weather Make Up Days - Update
With the amount of canceled school this year, please plan for June 5 (Monday) and June 6 (Tuesday) being a regular school day for students.
District Office sometimes receives questions about the number of make-up days compared to other districts. The difference is because make-up days are typically a calculation based on total instructional minutes. In simplest terms, we have a very long school day (number of minutes that we run school each day) compared to most districts. This is why neighboring districts and us may vary on the number of necessary make-up days.
Student Account Balances
Student accounts can be blocked for meals at parent's request by contacting the Food Service Director.
Pay By Check or Cash
