Pinehill School News 29 Sept 2021
29 September 2021 - Week 10, Term 3
Message from our Principal
Kia ora tatou,
Postponed event
School Production: At the start of this term, our Year 4 - 6 classes went full steam ahead with learning song lyrics, practising script lines and learning dance steps for our school production! Behind the scenes, we had staff and parents painting scenery, making props and sewing costumes. We were well on track for our school production performances, which would have taken place last week. Level 4 then threw a spanner in the works as everything came to a halt! Staff on the production team had many meetings during levels 4 and 3. We know all the positives school production creates for our students. With this in mind, we are postponing our school production until next term. We are pushing this out as far as possible, hopefully aligning with the stars and Level 1! Level 1 will enable our students to perform on stage and bring families onsite to enjoy the production live. We will cancel the production only if we re-enter Level 4 or remain in Level 3 or 2 for an unexpected length of time.
We are giving you advance notice to support you with rebooking or re-organisation with other events that students might usually participate in on the evenings below when our school production shows will occur. Please mark these dates on your calendars and keep the following evenings free for School production performances.
Tuesday 7 December
Wednesday 8 December
Thursday 9 December
Cancellations
Given the present COVID Delta level as well as the history and time it is taking Auckland to move through the levels, we feel that it is in the best interest of our children, families and staff, that we cancel the following events:
Whakatau to welcome new students and families on Monday 18 October is cancelled. Unfortunately due to the nature of the event and volume of people involved, our whakatau is not able to take place in Level 3 or Level 2. Teachers will organise a special welcome for new students in classrooms.
New Entrant Parent Information Meeting on Monday 18 October is cancelled. We hope to postpone this event as we move through the levels and will keep you posted with a new date when this becomes an option.
Culture Parade on Friday 22 October is cancelled. Culture Week teaching and learning in classrooms will go ahead as planned.
Pinehills got Talent (it isn’t feasible to do both a School production and Pinehills got Talent in Term 4)
We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging and unprecedented time. We realise there will be some very upset children and staff. These measures have not been taken lightly, but our responsibility lies with the health and safety of our Pinehill School Community.
Celebrating two years of principalship at Pinehill School
This Friday marks two whole years of principalship for me at Pinehill School.
My journey here began with a very special welcome powhiri where I shared a whakatauki with the students, families and community members. It is a whakatauki you will often hear me use or say.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
The people at Pinehill School are very special indeed! We have committed, dedicated, passionate and caring teachers and staff members. We have polite, helpful, kind and respectful students, and of course, we have the best families. It is the people at Pinehill School that are the most important thing about our place. We have all stuck together and looked out for each other as well as shown the Pinehill Way through good times and challenging times such as the COVID lockdowns, three this year alone! We showed resilience, integrity, excellence, respect and responsibility when the school went from being onsite to being at home and offsite.
Despite a very different year and in particular, a challenging Term 3, with unexpected twists and turns, learning has continued. We have accelerated our ICT skills, including using Seesaw and Zoom as a teaching and learning platform. We’ve managed to have EOTC experiences earlier in the year, Trees for Survival, sports events and games, and a school picnic.
Pinehill School, thank you for another fabulous year! I know the next one will be just as great!
As Term 3 comes to an end, I wish you all a safe and wonderful school holiday break with your families. Thank you for all your support and care throughout the term in contributing to Pinehill School being the special place it is. My toes and fingers are crossed that we move into Level 2 over the school holiday break, so we can all return onsite together for Term 4. We look forward to seeing you all again after the holiday break (fingers crossed) on Monday, 18 October.
Ngā mihi nui,
Carla Veldman, Principal

As long as we are in Level 2, we will run our October holiday days, albeit masked & well sanitised!
We know that there will be a lot of families who will be looking for a safe, fun and positive environment to send their children after such a long spell at home. We have strictly limited numbers due to the Covid Level 2 restrictions. You will need to pre book if you want to guarantee your place.
