Kids' Connection Weather Information

On delay days Kids' Connection will still open on time for those students enrolled in the program. If school goes from a delay to a closure, the program will also close. Kids' Connection will close 2 hours after the closure is called, by 7:30am.

Nurse Note

Reminder: Students who are sick or experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, are expected to be free of these symptoms for 24 hours, WITHOUT the use of medication, prior to coming back to school.

Be Prepared.... Think Ahead

Outside playtime is a very important part of the total elementary school program. Pendleton Elementary students have outside recess when the temperature is above 20 F (adjusted for wind chill), unless inclement weather, or a safety concern exists. Please make sure your child is dressed for the colder weather.

Developmental Preschool

Typical peers are needed for the 2019-20 school year. This is a developmental preschool for students with special needs. We invite 3 and 4 year olds who have good language skills to serve as social and communicative role models. Typical peers will be asked to pass a speech screener and must live within the South Madison Community School Corporation. Screens will be done on Wednesday, March 6th at 9:30am.

School Counselor's Corner

The last two weeks in our Project Care message we have talked about how to show someone common courtesy. We shared that when you show common courtesy it means that you are showing someone kindness and respect. It is something that many times we all take for granted and forget or stop showing to others. When we do this unfortunately we unintentionally send the message that we don’t care and in doing so effect everyone’s day around us. So here are a couple of examples that we shared of common courtesy: when someone says good morning to you, you respond by looking at the person and saying good morning back, and use their name if you know it, such as “Good Morning, Mr. Manuzzi”. When someone tells you to have a good day, make sure that you acknowledge their attempt to be kind by responding appropriately such as, “I hope you have a great day too, Mr. Schill.” When someone does something helpful for you, such as opening a door, picking up something and giving it to you, or even the lunch ladies helping you get food or checking you out in line, look at them and acknowledge them and their efforts to help you by saying “Thank You!” Thank you is a powerful statement and makes people feel appreciated and want to continue helping.

So for the next few week try to take advantage of teachable moments and model and practice with your student how to show common courtesy. Many churches and such have greeters and this would be a great opportunity for you to model and have your student with you also participating in the activity.

Until next week.....
