McKinley Monthly
April 3, 2020
Dear McKinley Families,
Dear Families,
I hope you are all staying healthy and your lives are beginning to find balance during our current Safer At Home time due to COVID-19. McKinley staff members are working hard to be sure that all of our students are continuing to stay connected to school in meaningful ways. Everything is brand new. We haven't done most of this before! Teachers have reached out to you this past week to check in, and as Dr. Ertl mentioned in his communication today, I would also like you to complete this survey so that we can get a feel for how things are going at home.
This week teachers added the layer of learning targets to their daily lessons, and next week you may see some differences with how teachers capture learning. You will also notice a change in when we will push out lessons. Many families asked for an evening preview, so you can expect the next day’s lesson by 9:00 p.m. the prior day.
I have asked teachers to create “Office Hours”: times that they will be available “in-real-time” to answer emails or to set up specific meeting times with school families rather than trying to answer every email request as it comes in. Most of our teachers have children at home and some have elderly relatives and other obligations that have changed during this time, and like many of you, they are doing double and triple duty. I am asking staff to continue forward with care, remembering that every family’s situation is different at this time. We do not want to overwhelm you, and our staff members also need to stay connected to their own families. Connection time is most important right now.
If you are noticing that you need a Chromebook, though you thought at first you did not, or if your district-issued Chromebook is not working properly, please refer to the technology information linked into this district communication.
My big message to all: practice grace toward yourselves, your families, the children, your school families, your neighbors--everyone. We express gratitude to everyone providing services and goods that are needed by all, and we express love and support for those experiencing need in ways they never expected. We are all in this together.
Mrs. Hoffmann
