Superintendent's Update - 1.14.2022
Dear CPS Community,
I hope you were able to enjoy the week, even thought is a was particularly cold one. How quickly things change in New England, with temperatures a year ago this time in the upper 50’s, we hit a cold spell and it looks to persist over the long weekend. As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 17, 2022 in recognition of Martin Luther King Day. Our schools will reopen next Tuesday (1/18) for classes.
We are ending the second week of significant increases in COVID cases in our community. Our school staff has been very busy corresponding with families about case management, identifying close contacts, and testing students to allow them to remain in school if they test negative. We appreciate your patience if it takes a little longer for a phone call or e-mail to be returned, I hope over the next few weeks our COVID case numbers decrease back to a more manageable level. I will continue to provide weekly COVID case numbers and Pool Testing results on the CPS website for interested parents and community members to follow.
I do hope our COVID numbers decline significantly over the next few weeks. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has extended the mask mandate through February 28, 2022. Overall, our students have done a nice job wearing their masks daily, especially at the elementary level. It is important for us to continue to wear masks that fit properly, as it is a requirement to attend school. I ask you to please speak with your children about mask wearing and reinforce the importance of masks to be worn around the mouth and nose while in school.
I hope you have a wonderful long weekend. Please stay safe and warm.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
