4th Years: by Purvi Contractor
This week has been filled with reflection and revision as teams polish their documentary and presentation plans. During SRD, learners prepared to interpret their Capstone data by examining techniques for linear data models as well as creating an action plan for their ecosystem web sites. Pre-Cal learners continued their double angle unit while those in Calculus explored concavity through various collaborative and interactive experiences.
Since smart cities rely on networking, the learners delved into computer networking hardware in Computer Science. The teams, in English, analyzed diction as it pertains to their documentary script and presentation. In government, teams investigated monetary policy and its relationship to the federal system. These experiences contributed to the creation of a pamphlet, which summarizes each teams' revitalization plan for a location in Plano. This busy week will culminate in a presentation detailing the groups’ revitalization plan to Christina Day, Director of Planning and Caleb Thornhill, the Director of Engineering for the City of Plano.
3rd Years
2nd Years
Second year Quantum Leap teams are excitedly making headway into the world of game design. As an engineering learning objective, teams have been breaking down their project to component tasks, creating scrum charts, and working on game production. Learners have collaborated to merge their individual ideas towards a single cohesive game synopsis targeting a specific audience. Themes around a scientific or historical issue or problem are making their way into the game mechanics in a myriad of unique ways. In world history, learners are getting ready to answer the question "Under which form of Government was Rome most successful?" Learners have been examining the Roman Republic and the evolution of the Roman Republic Constitution. In art, linear perspective has been the target objective as the cover art for their game will feature spatial depth. English and debate has been the setting for some riveting self-selected topics. Persuasive articles about games has provided a platform to sharpen the learner’s writing skills. Spanish learners have been practicing expressing cause and effect. At the dinner table, invite your learner to share (in Spanish) with you one of the cause-effects he/she created. The week ended with peer reviews of the early stages of their game productions. This has likely given teams a feeling of accomplishment as well as some ideas for improvements for next week.
