Summertime Happenings
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students, parents, teachers, staff members and Friends of the Block Island School for another year of hard work! Your continued support makes all the difference in making this school a place of pride for this community.
The school year, for a handful of staff, will continue throughout the summer. We support an extended school year program and a summer math/reading tutoring program throughout the July and August. There will be staff members manning the phones , placing orders, and preparing the school all summer long. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns for the upcoming year.
Our new Superintendent has been appointed. Judith Lundsten comes to us with years of experience from the Cranston School Department. She will begin in early August.
We are currently in the process of hiring three new staff members , a middle grades teacher, and a high school math and social studies teacher.
Our summer reading requirements for students are at your fingertips all summer long at http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=1296063. The link is also under "Summer Reading" on our school website. I can't stress enough the importance of helping your child keep a foot in the academic world during the summer. This is especially important during the early years when students are mastering the early foundational skills that will propel them through high school. Also, parents of students K-7, please look for a math packet to be mailed during the summer that needs to be returned completed in September.
I leave you with a host of images from the last weeks of the school year. Have a safe and happy summer.
