8th Grade Credit By Exam (CBE) Testing Days
We encourage our 6th graders to take the test on Saturday as it will prevent our students from missing a half day of classroom instruction and it will allow us more room to test children in a socially distanced environment. The test is 3.5 hours in length and includes 65 questions. Students testing are often nervous and after the test sometimes find themselves overwhelmed at the complexity of the exam. A Saturday will provide multiple benefits to our students.
For those families unable to test on the Saturday we will offer a test administration during the school day.

6th Grade Advanced Math – Important Information
Students currently in advanced math will automatically be placed in Pre- Algebra (equivalent to 8th grade math) at Knox Junior High. Students that are interested in advancing further from 6th Grade Advanced Math to 7th Grade Algebra 1 (equivalent to 9th grade math), by law, must first earn credit for 8th grade Math according to the state.
Students can earn this credit either by
1. Credit by Examination (Completed Parent Application Required) or
2. CISD Online Acceleration Initial Credit summer school program
Mrs. LeBlanc and the 6th grade math team will host an in person 6th grade advanced math parent informational meeting to discuss the selection of 7th grade math and beyond on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. During this meeting, we will share information to help your family make an informed decision about your child’s math track and what it means to sit for the credit by examination necessary to be considered for Algebra 1 in 7th grade.
The application for the Credit by Examination will be passed out to families at the conclusion of the parent meeting on 1/13/22. The completed form must be returned to your math teacher no later than Friday, January 21, 2022.
There may be many questions whether your advanced math student should consider Algebra 1 as a seventh grade student. This is an important discussion between a parent and their child. Your 6th grade math teacher will be unable to recommend students for math placement at Knox. A personalized letter will be given to advanced math students and will provide STAAR results, benchmark and math grades to give students and parents an opportunity to review data in an effort to further family discussion as to Algebra 1 readiness as a 7th grader. Attendance at the parent meeting on January 13th will also provide necessary information to guide your placement decision.
Thank You,
Shelli LeBlanc
