DMS Students Support Our Veterans
by Alexis Litteken
Three Daphne Middle School Choir students, Kierstan Watson, Sarah Santa-Cruz, and Brileigh Wyckoff, recently put on a performance for Veteran’s Day. The performance honored all retired United States military soldiers. After lots of hard work and practicing, the girls put on a wonderful show. They sang the National Anthem and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Along with their singing, State Senator, Randy Davis, played “Taps”.
The girls presented Brian McFeely, the Administrator of William F. Green Veteran’s Home, with a check for $377 from Daphne Middle School student donations and personalized notes written by students to veterans thanking them for their service. The girls received a plaque from Shelly Bates, from the W.F. Green Veteran’s Home. Kierstan, Sarah, and Brileigh put on a great Veteran’s Day performance and we thank them for representing DMS and all their dedication to honoring Veterans.
Toys For Tots
by Hudson Arnold, Alex Hayes, and Dustin Lowe
There is a Toys For Tots drive going on at Daphne Middle School (DMS). The Peer Helpers and NJHS members are joining to participate in the Toys For Tots toy drive, which is a program by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Toys For Tots is collecting toy donations, and gives the toys to kids who aren’t able to have Christmas like most families. DMS is an official Toys For Tots drop off spot. DMS will be collecting toys from November 10 to December 5. If you donate a toy in its original package, you get an extra break during the afternoon on Friday, December 12. Toys For Tots has already started. It is encouraged that everyone bring a few toys, because the more we get, the more kids we can help. For more information, to donate a dollar amount, or to request toys for your family, visit the Toys For Tots website.

You Are Unique and You Only Love Once
by Baynard Baggs and Jack Mulkerne
Students at DMS were presented a seminar by Women’s Medical Center talking about abstinence and harmful STDs, and how to prevent them. Students were presented this program during their science period in mid-November. The motto of the seminar for 7th graders, which was a three day experience, was “You are Unique.” Eighth graders had a followup two-day experience with the program “You Only Love Once.” This is a very important subject to talk about, and is very informative and educational for the students who participated. Presenters discussed how to save your body for marriage, along with how to hold a healthy, long lasting relationship with your spouse. Students received a bracelet with either the saying Wait for “It” or “#YouOnlyLoveOnce.” Students walked away with more knowledge of this important topic.
Chamber Theatre Field Trip
by Mykenzie Hunt and Bailey Schroeder
The Eighth Graders went on a field trip to Sanger Theatre to see productions by the Chamber Theatre. The short stories were combined into a two act play with “The Raven, “The Tell Tale Heart”, and “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in Act One, and “The Monkey’s Paw”, “The Necklace”, and “The Celebrated Jumping Frog from Calaveras County” in Act Two. Kennedy Parker stated, “It was really cool, I liked it!” Students mentioned that the costumes and acting were professional. After seeing the play, they went to fast food restaurants such as Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, and Taco Bell for lunch and then returned to school. Students mentioned they appreciated going out to fast food restaurants. The 8th graders really enjoyed the field trip.

The Amazing….Mrs. Schneider!
by Delaney Clark and Maddie Naquin
Trojan times interviewed Mrs. Schneider, the new 7th grade Career Tech teacher. We chose her because she is a very unique teacher.
What inspired you to be a teacher?
My grandfather was a teacher, but I also wanted to educate and inspire students.
Why did you choose to teach at DMS?
Because its the best school in Baldwin County, of course.
Why did you choose to teach 7th grade Career Tech?
I wanted to help students to begin to develop the foundation of their future. So, if I could help them to decide on a very ground level of what they wanted to do when they are older; then I will feel like I’ve done my job.
What makes you unique as a teacher?
I feel like I’m flexible and creative.
What are your hobbies outside of school?
I enjoy to spend time with my family, read, shop, and travel.
What is your favorite thing about summer?
Going to the beach and spending time with my family.
What is your vision, or expectation for your students?
I hope to constantly challenge and inspire them to pull themselves to the next level.

Soccer Tryouts
by Alyssa Ducote
This year, Daphne Girls Soccer tryouts will be the two weeks before Christmas, as will the Daphne Boys tryouts. The girls and boys teams will be conditioning for five days and using the ball for five days in the two weeks before games. Last year during tryouts candidates worked on passing drills, shooting drills, and some stamina tests. If you’d like to try out, you can talk to Coach Larisey for girls soccer or Coach Kinard for boys soccer. At tryouts, make sure you have a bag with water, cleats or tennis shoes, shin-guards and socks, and appropriate clothing for soccer (t-shirts or athletic tank-tops, gym shorts or Nike shorts, and possibly a jacket since it will be winter).
