Happy Friday Families

Happy New Year Tigers! We hope you enjoyed your holidays and are feeling well rested. We've certainly missed our favorite little people over break and are excited to get back into the swing of things.

***Our Character Trait Focus this month is GRIT. We encourage our students to persevere and pursue their long term goals, never give up!

We also spend time revisiting routines, procedures and expectations with our littles as two weeks away from it all can feel like a lifetime.

No bus cancelations this week.

Music with Mrs. West

Dear Parents,

In December we learned all about the Nutcracker Ballet, from the composer, Tchaikovsky, including the dancers and also behind the scenes! Mrs. Plum and I put together an all school dance party that our students enjoyed Wednesday afternoon before break! (See pics below)

I went to a concert in December and was very impressed with the Livonia Youth Choir. Three of our Roosevelt Tigers are in the choir and did such a nice job. The choir has auditions coming up on Mondays Jan 17 & 24. See pic below! Please check it out if your child really enjoys singing! They practice at a church near 5 Mile/275.

Warm regards,

Mrs. West

The Latest in the LMC

This week we eased back into the academics with some review on book care and responsibilities with checked out books. Students made a fun corner book mark so they don't "dog-ear" their book pages. Next week we will be back in the computer lab to begin a two part lesson on fact and opinion.

Book checkout continues to go very well. Many students have earned prizes for punches. If they haven't told you, each Roosevelt student has a punch-card for the library that they bring with them to checkout. Each time they bring their books back on time for turn in or renewal, they get their card hole punched. After five punches, they earn a prize and get a new card. This has improved our on time returns greatly. Please help reinforce at home the importance of taking care of their "borrowed" books, and taking responsibility to return them on time.

Thank you,

Mr. Pinta

Winter Wonderland Weather Reminders

Snow Gear/Winter Weather:

Students are always excited about snow. We will be heading outside for recess every day, as long as the temperature is 15 degrees (with wind chill). Please be sure to dress your children appropriately! Children need to have snow boots if they want to play in the snow. They need to have snow pants on if they are going to be laying down, rolling around and doing all that other fun snow stuff. If your child does not have boots/snow pants, they will be staying on the black top during recess (no boots/no snow pants = no snow).

Please be sure to label all your children's winter gear. It is best if the children have different shoes as well, so we can leave the wet boots in the hall. As always, no throwing snow!

Helpful Hints:

  • Send snow gear in a separate (not disposable) bag. It is hard to try to repack everything in backpacks or flimsy bags that tear.
  • Send in shoes if your child wears boots to school. Dry shoes are more comfortable and will not track mud/snow through the classroom.
  • Label everything. It is much faster/easier to return lost items when they have a name.
  • Practice independence at home. Can your child put on and zip their jacket on their own? Can your child turn the sleeves of their jacket right side out if they are backwards? Help your child practice these skills at home so that they are successful at school.

Important Reminder: Pedestrian Safety

Please be sure to respect the safety of staff and students while crossing the street. Our crossing guard, Mr. Doug, has had several issues with parents violating the law and neglecting safety near the crosswalk.

Parents, please DO NOT cross the street outside of the designated crosswalk. Mr. Doug can help you cross Lyndon safely. We need your partnership in keeping everyone safe!!

PTA Reminders

Please join us for Skate Night on 1-21-22 from 5:30-7:30 pm. We are also hosting a Disney Spirit Day on 1-28-22. Celebrate your favorite Disney Characters by dressing alike, wear your ears, or favorite Disney clothes or colors. See the flier attached below.

While all LPS enrolled students will receive meals at no cost this coming school year, we encourage all families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application every year. This application is critical in determining the amount of funding our district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs. Please visit the LPS website, go to the Departments tab, and find the Food Service link. Take the time to fill it out today!
