Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills. For the month of September, in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson has chosen a Hispanic singer every week. Click above to listen!
From Principal, Dra. Cárdenas
Esteemed RHE Community,
This week, teachers used the data from the beginning-of-year assessments to plan their small group instruction. During small group is when teachers provide differentiated support to students who are below grade level and students who are at or above grade level. The instructional activities during this time includes, but is not limited to, a variety of hands-on activities, time on our personalized learning platform iReady Math and iReady Reading, spelling reinforcement online, and time to work on their Project-Based Learning (PBL) project.
Progress reports also went out this week. Parents, if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your child's teacher this week. In the next two weeks, teachers will be reaching out to schedule teacher-parent conferences for when the 1st report card is out. Those teacher-parent conferences will give you an opportunity to view your child's work in class, review beginning-of-year assessment data, homework expectations, the teacher's plan to support your child this year, and the role our parents play in their child's academic progress.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We'll see you back on Monday, bright and early at school before 8:00am.
At Your Service,
Dra. Betty A. Cárdenas
