Magers Memo
November 17th, 2017
I'm SOOOOO thankful for you!
Please know the impact you have on each little life that enters your classroom. To some of your students, you are their only consistent. I know teaching is hard, and at times no one is saying thank you. I hope each of you know that I notice all of the little things you do to make sure that each student in your class looks back and reflects on the positive experiences they had in your class. I am SO thankful for you and am also SO proud to be an Indian.
Today I was walking the halls reading everything on the walls of our school-all student led and driven. WOW, that's all I can say. A positive attitude and outlook does rub off on our students and it is obvious that YOU put students first. Thank you for digging deep on the challenging days to make sure that you ALWAYS keep it together, even when inside you feel like your impact is small. Your impact is NEVER small. Your hard work is evident everywhere and you are all top notch. Thank you for allowing me to be your leader-I am very blessed and do not take this role lightly.
Please enjoy your Thanksgiving and hug your family and your friends! Tomorrow is not promised, so let's make each day count. Love to all!
Your PROUD Chief
Visitors in the Building
- We will have visitors in the building the week after Thanksgiving break. On Tuesday the 28th, J Anderson will be here in the morning and Weller teachers and principal will be here observing in the afternoon. Please check your goal boards in the hallway and make sure they are updated and legible. Teachers who have walker duty: Please remind students not to touch the boards/erase them. Thank you!
- Teachers in grades 3-5 will receive Panorama survey results this week. I would encourage you to reflect on your results and set two action steps based on the results. We will be discussing those action steps in our grade level team meetings this month.
- Next week is a short week! I will be out Monday morning doing an internal visit for Dr. Jungmann. We have a Celebration Assembly at 1:15 p.m. on Monday. Tuesday we have Tribe Time at the end of the day. Our wonderful PTA will be delivering pies on Tuesday, so if you are not at Sequiota on Tuesday, please make arrangements to come by to pick up your pie.
- Grade Level Team Meetings are the 29th
- Meagan is out of the building on Thursday the 30th for Mental Health Training

United Way: SPS Charitable Giving Campaign
How to GIVE
To make it easy for all employees to give we are offering three digital options. These not only allow employees to complete their donations instantly, it also adds a level of privacy and security for donors.
Option 1: Text to give. When employees text “SPS” to 40403 they will receive a reply text with a link to complete their gift using a credit card. Be sure to select where you want to direct your donation: United Way, Foundation for SPS or Both.
Option 2: Website. Employees may visit www.uwozarks.org or www.supportsps.org and click on the “Donate” button to make their contribution. If they choose to give to both organizations, they will need to complete a separate donation on each organization’s website.
Option 3: Electronic payroll deduction form. Employees may choose a ONE TIME or MONTHLY deduction from their SPS paycheck with this electronic form. There is also a printable payroll deduction form that you may provide to employees who do not have computer access. An email will be sent to ALL employees Thursday, Nov. 9, with active links to these digital options.
Note: Some employees may still choose to use cash or checks to make their donation. You will deposit these contributions as described above. Remember, all checks must be payable to Springfield Public Schools.
Congratulations Dottie Nichols: Power of One Recipient from Steve Sharkey
Dottie Nichols:
Your Heart for children-Your love for your students is evident every single day. It shows in your actions, it’s heard in your voice. If one of your students is hurting, you hurt too. You take action to turn the hurt around and turn the frown upside down.
Give purpose-You give each student purpose which makes them each feel special and important. You have a student that has needed extra attention from you. You have given it freely and with a nurturing spirit. You gave him a purpose and he has made great progress with some struggles.
Your time- You do not work an 8 hour shift and then head home. You are here after school, and many times on the weekends. You also have it so students can earn a chance to eat with the teacher, which is often and the kids get excited about it.
One on One connections- You make connections with each of your students. They leave school each day knowing that their teacher is there for them and eager to help, they leave feeling they each have a connection with you that is unique and custom made for them.
Great teacher- Having been in your room for an hour each day last year, I felt privileged to watch you in action. You present your lessons in a way that helps the students to understand, and you are patient when they don’t.
The power of one teacher’s actions is endless. I don’t doubt for one minute who you give the credit to for your gifts and talents. Your light is always shining and you are a great example of what it means to have faith and believe in all the possibilities, especially at times when things look like impossibilities.
Way to go Dottie, thanks for inspiring me and countless others.
