What's Up in the Classroom?

Writing- We are continuing on our journey of learning the steps to a successful writer's workshop. The students are gaining writing stamina and are well on their way to becoming tomorrow's great writers!

Spelling- Students were suppose to begin switching this week for their sort groups but they were not able to due to scheduling conflicts. So, we continued on with their 500 "No Excuse" words and will start our switch next week.

Reading- We've added in motivations to our character traits and it's going VERY well. Students are having to find proof from the text to support the trait they assigned to a specific book character.

Math - We began switching for math and it has been fun. Students are getting to experience another 4th grade teacher (unless, of course, they're with me) and have the instruction more focused on their skill set at this time. Groups are flexible and change easily to ensure your child is in their "Good Fit" math classroom.

Technology- Students were introduced to Scootpad this week. They are required to do one reading Scootpad and one math Scootpad each day. They have about 20 to 25 minutes a day in school to complete the task but if they decide to use their time for other things (math h.w., writing, spelling, etc.) then they will have to complete the assignment at home.

Character Assembly

On Wednesday, Sept. 17th, the students went to an assembly. They learned about improvisation and creativity. Their expectations were to be safe, appropriate and unusual! They were reminded that violence and grossness are not creative! Students played 3 games. The 1st was, "What are you doing?". The 2nd was "Counting to 3" and the final game was "Bibbity Bibbity Bop." Ask your child if he/she can remember how to play. They were so much fun!!

Picture Day and Planner

Students brought home picture day forms on Tuesday. If they did not give you the form, ask them about it. October 8th at 9:40 is our date and time.

The students are doing a really nice job checking the planner each night. I test them each morning to see if they did the secret assignment!!
