Sept 28-Oct. 2nd

Week of Sept 28th

Great job this week! Less than 150 days to go, and over 30 days down! Thanks for loving your students and all they have to offer!

Please help me welcome Kristen Beinecke who will be the maternity leave substitute covering Amanda Zilligan. She will be in the Gator house on Tuesday learning the Gator Way. She will begin after parent conferences. Kristen has taught K, Pre-K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade in her 14+ years of teaching. The majority of her time was spent in Missouri and she just recently spent one year in Maryland. We are excited Kristen and her husband have made Hamilton County their home and that she is joining GES!

PLC work- a shout out and big high five to the great work taking place in PLCs. Team are doing an amazing job of sitting down and reviewing standards, planning for the week, and sharing great instructional strategies to implement in the classroom. Is this cookie cutter work? No. You have to be yourself and at the same time work smarter not harder. We are ALL working HARD, but we can work smarter. True collaboration focuses on what we expect students to know, how do we asses what they know, and what do we do when students didn't meet mastery of the standard. You don't have to do it alone. Asking those questions with your colleagues makes it SO MUCH EASIER!

I'm going to take some time to summarize some of the awesome efforts of our curricular teams.

Curricular Team updates:

PBIS- The PBIS team is hard at work finalizing the October Pumpkin event as well as working on PBIS Tier 2. If you hare challenged by some behaviors in your class be sure to reach out to your PBIS rep.

Diversity- The diversity team is working hard at developing a list of Mentor Texts aligned to our units of study that will present more diversity. We hope to provide teachers with a list of book options and BOOKS in hand.

FOG - The school improvement team continues to meet to work on PBL. The SIP plan includes diversity, PBIS, math instruction, higher level thinking and PBL. So far each grade level team has discussed a PBL for first semester. The expectation is we will be integrating PBL and inquiry throughout our instruction.

Math Leaders- The math leads continue to meet to prepare training to help us grow in our math instruction. Balanced math- problem solving, number work, fluency and maintenance, and inspecting equations is an expectation. The Leads have presented many games and strategies that can be done daily or throughout the week.

Reading Leaders- good news- we have ordered four more kits to help with F & P benchmarking. Please see Fatima, Sharlee or Jessica if you have questions about F & P benchmarking. Remember all benchmarking is to be completed by parent conferences.
