9th grade Writing Field Test 12/12/19
On Thursday, December 12th, all 9th grade students will take the ELA Writing Field Test. The purpose of the ELA Writing Field Test is to assess newly-developed writing prompts, which may be used on future operational assessments. Student scores will not be reported for this field test; however, participation in the field test is an opportunity for your student to become familiar with the format of the writing component of the operational FSA ELA assessment that he or she will take in Spring 2020. In the 120-minute session, students will read selected texts and write a response to a prompt. Your student will receive a planning sheet, on which to plan his or her writing, but the official writing response will be recorded via the online test delivery system.
If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact Mr. Koebe. For more information about the FSA program, please visit the FSA Portal at www.FSAssessments.org. Thank you for supporting your student and encouraging him or her to do his or her best during this test administration.
Best,
Nicholas Koebe

Some of our Turkish classrooms visited the University of Florida this week. Students took a tour and visited the welcome center for a UF presentation. Dr. Kreppel and Dr. Baysal from European studies gave information about European critical languages and scholarship opportunities for students who wish to study the Turkish Language. This field trip was very effective and an educational activity for our students. ~Mrs. Aksu

Myself and Mr.I. successfully conducted the first quarter College Guidance classroom lessons to all 9th grade students on October 8th and October 9th. These are the items that were covered during the visit:
- Students logged into their Naviance (same as OSS-Connect) account and took two "personal assessments tests" ("Do What You Are and Career Interest Profiler") and checked their suitable careers based on the results of assessments.
- Learned about Florida graduation requirements for 24-credit standard diploma. http://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/7764/urlt/1415forwardflyer.pdf
- GPA Calculations with regular, honors, and AP classes for the current year.
- "College and Career Readiness-9th grade" OSS-Connect account has been introduced. You may find some useful sources for the college readiness.
You can reach us at any time if you have any questions.

30/30 Dismissal Rule
What is Delayed Dismissal? 30/30 Rule?
The “30/30 Rule" is a Delayed Dismissal Weather procedure that the nationally recognized. It is required that the “30/30 Rule” be enacted by the school if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning strike. Orlando Science Middle/High follows this rule.
When 30/30 Rule is implemented, students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes has passed from the last sound of thunder. However, parents/guardians who wish to pick up their child/children during delayed dismissal, will be allowed to sign out their child/children at the cafeteria or front office.
In order to pick up your student(s) from the cafeteria or front office during this procedure, parents/guardians must bring their dismissal sign to the front door of the school to sign their child/children out. If you do not have a dismissal sign, you will need to provide a picture ID and be on the school pick-up list to pick-up the child/children. Bus riders will be delivered home when conditions are all safe for dismissal.
An automated telephone and/or email message will be used to notify parents/guardians about delayed dismissals. Always be sure to update the school when your phone or email information changes. Thank you for your cooperation on our students’ safety.
