Murals on our Ball Walls!

Through the graciousness of the Children's Theatre Company, Muralist, Ms. Megan Sara, began painting murals on our 2 ball walls this week. (See picture below. They will be painted on the sides that face Channing Ave.) The timeline is short to get this work done before the play opens. It will take Megan 7-8 full days of painting to finish the murals that will be used as backdrops for our play as well as to be enjoyed by the Duveneck community for years to come. Thank you Ms. Sara for your incredible work and making our campus beautiful and inviting for all!

We will have a new bell schedule for the 22/23 school year. The reason for the new schedule is to create better alignment among all the elementary schools in the district. The one big change for Duveneck is that we will no longer have an afternoon recess for our K-3rd grade students. Please note the new end times for TK, K-3 M, T, TH, F, and our minimum day Wednesdays.

For those families who have a K-3 student and a 4/5 student, you will be able to wait on campus in a designated area so you won't have to come back and forth two times in the afternoon for pick up. I will share more specific details about where families can hang out and wait in my before school communications in August.

CAASPP Testing has begun for our 3rd-5th Grade Students

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) began this week in our 3rd-5th grade classrooms. These students are assessed in the areas of reading, writing and math and our 5th graders will take an additional science test. These tests assess how well students are learning the rigorous state standards designed to prepare them for college coursework and 21st-century careers. School personnel and parents/family members will receive a report of their student's performance on the test over the summer. To learn more about these tests, please read the brochures below.

  • IT Refresh of SMART Boards to SMART TV's has Begun at Duveneck

The district's IT Department began Phase 1 of refreshing classroom SMART Boards to SMART TV's on the Duveneck campus during Spring Break. Phase 1 installations took place in 5 classrooms- the Library and rooms 16, 21, 24, and 26. During the 22/23 school year, the rest of our classrooms will be refreshed. The teachers who received the SMART TV's in their classrooms are thrilled and the students are too. Below is a cute video of Mrs. Hauer's 2nd grade students on the first day they saw the new SMART TV in their classroom.

5th Grade Music Concert @ Greene Middle School

On Tuesday, April 19, our 5th grade band joined the Addison band for an amazing concert filled with the songs they have been learning and practicing since the start of school. To be in an auditorium for a live concert was the best! Congratulations to these musicians for a great evening of music and fun.

    3rd Grade Bicycle Rodeo

On Tuesday morning, April 19, our 3rd graders participated in the 3rd Grade Bicycle Rodeo. Our school partnered with Palo Alto City's Safe Routes to School Committee, the Palo Alto Police Department, our own school's Safe Routes to School Committee as well as parent volunteers to put on this event for our students.

Students brought their bicycle's and other 'wheels' to school and we had spare bicycles and wheels for those who couldn't bring their own to the event. The students rotated through 6 different stations that focused on specific aspects of bicycle safety rules to follow when they are riding and scootering on the streets around their neighborhoods.

It was so exciting to have this important safety event back on campus and our students had a blast participating in the stations. A special thank you goes out to our Safe Routes to School Committee, the parent volunteers, the police officers that came to support the rodeo and Ms. Rose Mesterhazy, Safe Routes to School Coordinator, Office of Transportation. The event was a huge success!!

The Teachers Thank You for Their New Books from the Book Fair!
