Spreading Love, Kindness, Respect, and Peace around our Learning Labs
Open Studio came to visit to start our clay portrait project. Students were so excited to shape the clay, moisten the clay with spray bottles and then add facial features. Open Studio will return in 2 weeks to have students paint their masks! We think that our creative students are off to a fabulous start!

Registration and Re-Enrollment for school year 2016-2017
Registration and Re-Enrollment for school year 2016-2017
2016-2017 Registration
Planning Ahead
Enrollment for 2016-2017 School Year
Based on many inquiries to the school about new enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year we will be sending out re-enrollment for our existing students and siblings early in February.
Typically we do this in March but because of the volume of interest for next year and the year after we need to evaluate space in the program for new incoming students. We have families already enrolling and securing their space for 2017-2018.
All forms are in the students folders make sure to check your child's student folder.
Re-enrollment forms and Registration Fee submitted by the deadline will guarantee the student's space for the upcoming school year. DEADLINE FOR EXISTING STUDENTS AND SIBLINGS IS FEBRUARY 16TH . Any registration forms submitted after February 16th will be placed on the waiting list.
KINDERGARTEN/FIRST GRADE REGISTRATION/RE-ENROLLMENT FORMS WILL BE DUE APRIL 1ST. WE ONLY ALLOW FOR 12 SPACES IN THIS PROGRAM.
TerraNichol Academy Junior Kindergarten Program
We are now preparing for open enrollment for our Junior Kindergarten program for school year 2016-2017.
Our Junior Kindergarten Program was developed in 2010 based on the feedback from our parents already attending our program. Parents and Educators sometimes feel preschoolers still need time to grow and mature and feel that they will benefit from an extra year before entering elementary school. Others may just miss the Kindergarten cut off date and this program allows for those students to participate and be challenged in the junior kindergarten program. Admissions and the enrollment process will start February 1st, 2016. The deadline will be April 1st, 2016. We will open up 12 spaces for this program.
To be considered for the program:
1. Registration Form and fee must be submitted to TerraNichol Academy by April 1, 2016.(Applications submitted without the non-refundable registration fee will not be considered.)
2. Parents will renew their parent agreement & contract to make a commitment for the school year.
3. The Students 5th birthday must be before August 1st, 2016 or the student would be eligible for Kindergarten in the public school for the 2016-2017 school year.
4. Parents make a commitment to participate in school- to- home projects taking place throughout the school year.
About the Junior Kindergarten program:
Our teaching team strives to weave the Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education throughout our content areas for this full-day program. The Reggio approach is known for its small-group work, integrated projects, and hands-on learning, often with natural and recycled materials.
The school is built on a foundation of great educational thinkers and the philosophy of the world class Reggio Emilia schools in Reggio, Italy. Such programming is based on the belief that children and young people are powerful learners who think reflectively and who collaborate with one another as they ask good questions, explore their worlds, build problem solving skills and develop creative skills for twenty-first century careers.
In such a learning environment, the individual strengths and needs of students of all ages will become well known by the staff, enabling them to support and guide each child's unique learning patterns and passions.
TerraNichol Academy of the Arts offers a hands on exploratory kindergarten program. Students engage in math, science, literacy, and social skills through creative, meaningful activities. Learning takes on a more organic approach as teachers build off of each students interests and needs. While respecting the expectations set by the Department of Education curriculum is introduced with a creative, fun, and developmentally appropriate approach. The activities are centered around a common theme creating a cross-curriculum approach to learning. Students also have the opportunity to expand knowledge of arts and music through our unique enrichment classes including art appreciation and music appreciation, Zumba, creative movement, Spanish, yoga, gymnastics, drama, and culinary arts. We feel it is essential to have small work groups. Our classroom ratio for Junior Kindergarten is 1:12.
The Junior Kindergarten runs daily from 9a.m to 3p.m. Extended school day until 5:00 p.m is also available for families who may be in need.
What is loose parts you say?
In our learning environments we have a display of loose parts that the students explore on a everyday basis. We will expand our loose parts projects the month of March. See March wish list to participate and donate items for the projects.
What is loose parts you say?
Here is a great article on loose parts.
http://www.letthechildrenplay.net/…/how-children-use-outdoo…
Kids really get to know the environment if they can dig it, beat it, swat it, lift it, push it, join it, combine different things with it. This is what adults call creative activity...a process of imagination and environment working together.
- Robin Moore
Our children at TerraNichol Academy never stop creating and constructing using loose parts: tyres, milk crates, wooden boards, logs, rope, sheets...anything they can get their hands on.
#loose parts = imagination + creativity
