The History of Hertford County
In 1759 land was taken from surrounding Bertie, Chowan, and Northampton counties to form and amazing county known as Hertford. The county was named in honor of Francis Seymour Conway, the Marquis of Hertford. The county is also home to the Meherrin Indian Tribe, who are loacted in Murfreesboro, a town in Hertford. Hertford County is composed of six townships, Winton being the county seat.
Hertford County is located in the northeastern part of North Carolina
