An important message from Andover Public Schools
Parents,
You may have heard news coverage recently of an alleged, potentially dangerous internet challenge. Organizations that track these sorts of trends have found rumors of this particular challenge to be unsubstantiated, but this can still be a good moment to talk to your child(ren) about internet safety.
Instead of mentioning this challenge by name — which could lead to children looking it up online — we would encourage you to ask your child if they have encountered anything online that they found concerning or upsetting. Other suggestions include:
Remind children not to talk to strangers online.
Tighten device settings and parental controls.
Remind children not to share usernames and passwords
Supervise and monitor your child’s online activity.
Report and block any content that is harmful or disturbing.
Occasionally audit your child’s Internet usage history.
Encourage your children to discuss anything they see that makes them uncomfortable or scared.
Here are some internet safety resources for parents that we would recommend:
Please contact your school if you have specific concerns or need additional help in navigating your child’s online use.
