Field Trip
We will attend:
- Inner Space Cavern Tour
- Brazos River Country exhibit at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco
- Waco Mammoth National Monument
The cost is $95 per student and it includes:
- T-shirt, group picture, Maggie the Mammoth plushy, and other souvenirs for each participant
- Curriculum incentives
- Lunch and dinner
- Charter buses
There is a mandatory training for all chaperones on November 12, 2019 at 3:30pm in the multi-purpose room at Argyle Intermediate. We have a maximum number of chaperones that are allowed to attend. All chaperones are required to ride the charter buses with the students and teachers.
What's Happening in 5th Grade!
Math
Accelerated Math- We are moving quickly though place value, comparing/ordering, and rounding and we will have our first topic test on August 30. There is now a tab on my website that is Accelerated Math that contains more information.

Dunn's Math Classes
Homework:Homework was given out today and is due Thursday, September 12th. If you need additional copies, it is on my website under "helpful resources".
Other: Please make sure you have signed up for the "class tag" for your child's homeroom teacher. They should have brought home an info sheet on this.
Tests/Quizzes:
All classes took a Unit 1 Test today. Grades will be in the grade book by this evening.
ELA
This week in ELAR we are continuing to grow our narrative writing skills as well as our knowledge on elements of fiction. New spelling words will be sent home Monday for students to study for the test on September 20th. This list can also be found on our classroom websites.
Homework:
-Spelling homework will be sent home on Monday as well. It will be due Friday, September 13th.
-Students will read their SSR book for 20 minutes every night. This will count towards their 40 book challenge and their monthly book projects. Our first book project is due on September 27th! Students have the project choices in their red folder or you can find it on our websites.

Social Studies
Students will learn about the successes and failures of colonizing in the New World.

Science
Specials
This week, students finished their social contract for our STEM classroom. Next week, students will review concepts that have been taught in STEM by playing a collaborative version of STEM Bingo. This week in PE the emphasis has been on the proper ways to throw and catch. We incorporated those skills into shuttle drills, relay races, Boom City and Newcomb.
