Roadrunner Report

The rundown on Ridgewood Elementary School-May 14, 2020

Big picture

Principal Perspective

Thank you for the amazing kindness showed to us during Staff Appreciation Week. We truly value the care and support of our families, especially during this unprecedented time.

It was so great to see many of you on Thursday as you picked up student items. If you were unable to get your items on Thursday, please send us an email ( and we can give you another time to come. Thanks to those of you who donated food for our Ridgewood families and the BHS food baskets. We will continue to accept food donations each Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. on our front porch.

As you have seen, we will be furloughed for Fridays through the remainder of the school year. Teachers have adjusted their weekly schedules to reflect this 20% reduction in the school week, and our all school assemblies have moved to Thursdays. None of us will be working on Fridays, and we know that the money saved through this furlough will preserve teaching jobs for next year.

Finally, we will begin work on 2020-21 class lists next week. If you have yet to submit your input on the Student Profile Form, please click the link below and submit it by Monday the 18th.

Enrolling a Child

Please share this link with new families so they can enroll online.

Kindergarten Registration is Open

Do you know an incoming Kindergartner or new to our neighborhood ? Please ask the family to go to the Ridgewood website (the enrollment button is right below the main photo) and register their child for next year. All enrollment can be done online. Once families have enrolled, they will begin to receive our newsletter and notifications about the beginning of the school year.

Enrollment questions can be emailed to Marla Kelley (, our enrollment secretary.

Safe Routes Survey

It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient and fun. Parent and guardian input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads. The link below was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.

The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.

We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

Thank you,

Leah Biado-Luis

If you click on the link above you can purchase all your school supplies for the fall for your child going into K through 5th grade next year, and support a small business at the same time! We changed companies from previous years and this company only serves about 6,000 schools nationwide. And you never have to enter a store! This will only be available until the 3rd week of June, so please order your supply kits now and pass this on to anyone else who has a Ridgewood student next year (including incoming K students). Oh, and this is NOT a fundraiser, simply a way for Ridgewood parents to get their school supply shopping done in 5 minutes or less :) Your supplies will be in your child's classroom in the fall when they arrive.

  • We are using 1st Day School Supplies for our school supply orders for the upcoming year. Below is a link to the store for you to purchase your supply kit. All kits will be delivered directly to the school before the start of school in the fall.
  • Supply kits must be ordered by JUNE 12th, 2020 to be included in the order.
  • The teachers have put in specific requests for items they want in the supply kits. We have addressed issues with the quality of the supplies as well.

For those who want to purchase supplies on their own, lists will be coming out. We will let you know when they are out.
In addition to resources provided to all BSD families, our Ridgewood Community has set up resources for our families, specifically our Little Free Library and new Little Free Pantry. Both are located at the front entry of our building, and have food, hygiene items, school supplies and books available for families. If you are able to contribute items to either pantry, please do so. You are welcome to take without giving and give without taking. If your family has a specific need to be met, please reach out to our staff as well, and we will help as we are able.

If at any time you are in need of emergency food, please call us at Ridgewood and leave a message. Messages will be checked daily. We will do our best to assist you.

Anyone can call 211 for assistance with housing, childcare, utility bills, or if you have health and safety questions or need any other resources. Help is available in several languages. You can also get help online at

The Oregon Food Bank is open. Check here for more information:

All families can set up free internet access for 2 months through Comcast. Go here for details: or call 1-855-846-8376.

Meals for Students

Please note that the Vista Hills/ Walker Road meal bus stop will be ended on May 1st due to lack of participation.

Playground Closed

All Beaverton schools and buildings are closed and this includes our playgrounds, fields, and tracks. All outdoor gates have been locked in support of public health and to limit the spread of COVID-19. Due to limited staff we are unable to maintain safe fall zones at our play structures. Also, please note on Sunday, March 22, 2020, THPRD notified the community that their outdoor playgrounds and exercise equipment are closed to the public.

The paper box top collection program has been discontinued by General Mill, so we are no longer collecting box tops at school. However, you can still earn money for Ridgewood; if you see the label below, simply use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth the same amount and what’s great is the app will instantly add cash to the school’s earnings online. Find more info here.
