Teaching at Southern
July 2020, The Center for Teaching Excellence
Message from the CTE Director
As we navigate the re-opening of campus and new modes of course delivery, know that the CTE is here to support you. We've created a new self-paced, asynchronous Folio training course, "Flex Ed: Adaptive Pedagogy for Unpredictable Paths," to provide you training to make informed decisions about flexible course design and delivery.
We strive to support "Teaching Excellence" through this Flex Ed course and our many other professional development opportunities. We regularly update our website with new resources and workshops and are here to provide one-on-one assistance. We are in this together!
Debbie Walker, Interim Director
Flex Ed: Adaptive Pedagogy for Unpredictable Paths
We face a great deal of uncertainty in terms of fall course formats. As you try to plan for the coming semester, you may be wondering:
- What happens if students can only attend every other or every third class due to course size? What about students who need to self-quarantine but want to continue my course?
- What can I do to ensure that students continue learning if they can't come to class?
- Can I still use active learning strategies in a socially distanced classroom?
- Should I plan to teach a flipped, blended, hybrid, or hyflex course? What do any of those even mean?
- How can I best design my course to manage a sudden online transition?
If you've considered these or similar questions, the CTE's new Flex Ed course is for you! In this asynchronous, self-paced Folio course, you'll find tips, tools, and strategies to help you design courses flexible enough to adapt to shifting course modalities while also ensuring engaging learning experiences for students.
This course opens July 6th and will remain open for enrollment. Once you register, you will be enrolled in the course. Please allow up to 24 hours for enrollment.
