ELAC (English Language Advisosry Committee) & DELAC (District English Language Advisory Committee)
Have you ever attended an ELAC or DELAC meeting? Each school site in the district has an active ELAC committee and our district has an active DELAC committee. The role of the ELAC committee is:
- Advise the school site council on programs for English learners
- Advisory or input on the School Plan for Student Acheivement or SPSA
- Advise on the school's needs assessment
- Learn the importance of regular student attendance
- Receive training
At the district level I facilitate a similar committee. The DELAC committee is made up of ELAC representatives from each school site. DELAC advises on the following:
- Development of the district master plan
- Conduct a district wide needs assessment
- Establishment of district program with goals & objectives for English learners
- Development of a plan to ensure compliance with any applicable teacher or instructional aide
- Review and comment on school district reclassification procedures
- Review and commnet on the written notifications required to be sent to parents.
Both committees perform a vital role and are critical for the success of our English learners both district wide and per school site. I invite you to attend a school ELAC or district level DELAC meeting. All meetings are open to the general public for more information about ELAC meetings see your school principal. If you would like more information about DELAC meetings please feel free to contact me.
