The Week of March 21st-25th

PBIS Update

March 9th and March 16th were Day 4 of PBIS at the GISD this year. The March 9th meeting was for district coaches. As district coaches, Sue Darby, Laura Carlson, Melissa Biazza, and myself attended. The 16th was for coaches and building leads. The focus for these days included:

  • Behavior data broken down by building
  • Percentage of referrals per building
  • A review of the school wide PBIS survey - family, staff, and student surveys
  • Classroom Environment tips and its effect on behavior
  • District coaches provided samples of their PBIS celebrations and a gallery walk was done to share ideas and artifacts

The next step for the Early Learning PBIS team will be on March 31st. I will be sharing information from these meetings with GSRP and Thomson staff. Cardinal's Nest will be shared as well on another date to be determined.

A few highlights of the week in preschool

News from the Nest...

Cardinal's Nest met their reading goal this week and colored in their hat. Now it is time for a reward. Great job Little Cardinals!

On another note, Mrs. Strader is taking calls for Cardinal's Nest early pre-school, 3 year old preschool, and 4 year old preschool registration the week after spring break. April 11th to 15th. Registration appointments will begin on April 18th. Tell all your friends! More information to come.

Kindergarten Round Up

Davison's Kindergarten Round Up week is always exciting. Staff from Thomson, Siple, Hill, GSRP, and Cardinal's Nest come together to get the job done. It' s a great time to get caught up with colleagues from other buildings and to welcome anxious children to our wonderful school district. This year we got well over 200 eager little ones screened and registered for kindergarten. We saw a lot of familiar faces at round up this year which is a good indicator of our growing preschool population! We conducted our annual preschool survey and we will have data showing the number of students that attended preschool, the number of students that came from each area preschool, and data on readiness skills. More to come as we get our results.

Mystery Readers

We have many mystery readers coming into preschool this month to surprise our students. Thursday's mystery reader sure surprised Claire Lesko in Ms. Tate and Ms. Murphy's room. I think you can see all the kid's excitement. Mr. Lesko reported having fun playing dad rather than his usual role in our building. We promised not to make any technology requests while he was here!
