A Message from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock

Cougar parents,

It’s crazy to think we are already at the holidays, but here we are almost half way through the year! While this year has been different and a little challenging, we are so proud of the resilience of our students and the hard work they are doing here at school and at home. We know they have had to adjust to new safety rules, online learning on A/B schedule and even learn what asynchronous and synchronous means! (Some of us had to learn those words as well!) We have also seen such great partnerships between parents and teachers to support our students through this time and are very thankful for our great community at Curtis MS!

Just a reminder, students who have district devices checked out to them need to be bringing those devices to campus daily to use in their classes. Due to the volume of devices checked out, we do not have the capacity to provide devices here at school for all students without students bringing those borrowed devices to use while here. Please be sure to bring the device fully charged for use on campus. Thanks for your support with this.

As a reminder, we will have an early release day on Friday, November 20. All students will be dismissed at 12:35. Normal buses will be running early that day for students who ride buses. We will provide lunch on campus for A and B lunch as normal, and C lunch will have a short period of lunch with the option to take a sack lunch home with them.

We wish all our Curtis families a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. We are truly thankful for each of you and your dedication to your child’s education and for your support of our CMS staff!

Sincerely,

Sonya Pitcock

Instructional Delivery Model Selection Dates

Allen ISD understands that families may want to change their instructional delivery model selection during the school year. Due to the scheduling complexities inherent in both At-Home Learning and In-Person Learning, parents are asked to make a commitment for at least one full nine-weeks grading period.

The chart below outlines the timeframe for making a change in the selected instructional delivery model prior to the start of each new grading period. Parents wishing to change their child’s participation in either At-Home Learning or In-Person Learning for the next nine-weeks grading period will need to complete the Commitment Form. Information will be sent to all parents about the process to request a change.

Please note that adjustments in instructional delivery model selections across the district may impact teacher assignments and student schedules.

Staff may need to shift to align with new instructional model choices. Therefore, even students who do not change instructional models could experience a change to their teacher(s), course availability or class schedule as teachers are assigned based on the numbers of students and course requests in each environment.

Elementary students making changes to their instructional delivery model selection may not be guaranteed to be assigned to their home campus based on staffing and grade level seat availability.

All changes will be effective on the first day of each new nine weeks grading period as listed below:

STEAM Ambassadors Tutoring Services

General Overview:

Provide flexible online peer tutoring services to students K-12 with homework help and science and math concept comprehension.

Goals:

  • Assist students with math and science concepts through virtual tutoring sessions.

  • Provide accessible student support that would typically be offered in a face to face setting but has become increasingly difficult as students learn away from campus.

  • Establish a virtual tutoring model that successfully addresses the diverse needs of learners across Allen ISD.

Virtual Science Fair

The Allen ISD Science Fair is going virtual this year! Both Elementary and Secondary campus fairs will need to be virtual due to COVID19. Instructions and deadlines for the fair will be shared by campus science fair coordinators soon.

Due to the nature of COVID19, we are proceeding as though the regional and state fairs will be virtual as well, however this may change.
