Happy Friday!

Hello Crissman families!

I hope everyone had a great week! We are excited to announce that the Morning Announcement Team started today! Mr. Murphy has been working on organizing it and getting it going this school year. It is a great way to start our school day.

Please be sure to read over the newsletter that explains Open House this school year. Lots of good information there :).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Update from UCS Transportation

The UCS Transportation Department is committed to safety and efficiently transporting our UCS students. We realize that we carry precious cargo and that we make a positive difference in how our students start and end every day. We are excited to be back on the road!

While it is not unusual for it to take a few weeks for our routes to fall into place, this year has been particularly challenging. The nationwide shortage of bus drivers as well as local construction projects have created significant challenges for us. We are actively working to address both situations. We are in regular contact with the Macomb County Road Commission on project timelines and have identified alternate routes until construction is completed. These alternates, however, often add to pick up and drop off delays. In addition, we have been actively advertising our open positions and have held several job fairs to recruit candidates.

The Transportation Department has been contacting families when it is anticipated that delays will be greater than 10 minutes through automated phone calls, emails and text messaging. If you have not signed up for the UCS text system, text “Y” to 67587.

The good news is that we should be seeing some relief over the next few weeks. As road construction project season comes to an end, we will be able to return to our normal routes and you should see some improvement in many areas. In addition, we have more than 10 new drivers going through the training process and should be on the road shortly once the process is completed (training and certification takes several weeks). We are still in need of about 30 more drivers; if you are aware of individuals interested in becoming a bus driver, please have them contact 586-797-7113.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Parking Lot Safety

wanted to review the parking lot procedures for our school. I know that many of you may already know these procedures; however, it is always a great reminder for our families.

1) Use the student drop off zone located to the left of the parking lot entrance from 9:10-9:20am. Please do not enter the bus loop during this time as it’s unsafe and causes additional congestion in the parking lot.

2) Student Drop-Off Lane: Move all the way to the back of this area (near the dumpsters/playground) and pull up next to the orange traffic cones. Once you arrive at the orange cones, please have your child exit the vehicle quickly and do not linger so that the next car may proceed in a timely manner. Please do not enter the area past the cones as this is a designated student pathway during this time. When your child has exited the car, please continue the “loop” around the end of the lot (in front of the dumpster/playground) and exit to Wolf Drive.

3) Parking in the Subdivision- Please do not park on the street where you see signs that say “No parking, Stopping, or Standing”. If you can read the sign when you are parking, do not park there OR if you are between the two signs, do not park there. Double Parking- Please do not park on both sides of the street. Our buses need to get through. The Shelby Township Police can give you a ticket.

Thank you so much for your patience and support!

As always, if you arrive past 9:20 am, please accompany your child to the office and sign them in.

PTA RAISE CRAZE

Exciting news! Crissman Elementary will participate in ‘Raise Craze Funding Through Kindness’ this coming school year!

This a great way for our kids to do positive, kind acts while raising much-needed funds for our school. Raise Craze is a fundraiser centered on good deeds and Acts of Kindness, like writing thank you notes or picking up litter. Friends and family can donate to our students, and as a way to pay their generosity forward, our students will complete a variety of Acts of Kindness. Everyone can participate because everyone can be kind!

More information will be available in the coming weeks. Be on the lookout for letters sent home and social media posts from the PTA.

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook at Crissman Elementary PTA.
