Teacher Receives Chicago Bears Award
Teacher Lisa Lindell was honored this week with the Chicago Bears Classroom Legends award.
Sprague School surprised the first-grade teacher with an assembly with the entire first grade; Staley, the Bears Mascot; and a CDW Legends sponsor. Mrs. Lindell was one of 20 teachers in the state who were honored this year for going above and beyond the expectations of classroom teaching. Mrs. Lindell received a customized Bears jersey and football, tickets to the Bears training camp, and $1,000 for her classroom.
Of this recognition, Mrs. Lindell said, “I was so happily surprised! I am incredibly honored to receive this award. I would like to thank William and his family for the nomination. I often say that I am a ‘Mama Bear’ in my home and in the classroom. It was so much fun to see Staley and the Bears representatives at the assembly. It feels amazing to be recognized in this way! I appreciate the gifts and many thanks to CDW and the Chicago Bears!”
Said Jessica Breich, a mom of one of Mrs. Lindell’s students, who nominated her for the award, “Lisa has remained focused on ensuring the children in her classes are heard, seen, and loved. Her positivity and love for the kids is infectious and creates a learning environment for students to thrive. While there are over 20 kids in the class, she works hard to customize the student's classroom experience based on their social, emotional, and educational needs and meets each student where they are in their learning journey. This is not an easy task, and as a leader in the corporate world, I admire her patience and personalized approach.”
Please visit the school's Facebook page or Google Doc folder for pictures of the assembly.
Plant & Animal Life
As part of the second-grade’s study of the Web of Life of Plant and Animals students visit the Edward Ryerson Conservation Area where they take an up-close look at seeds, plants and animals. Students observe plant and animal interactions by conducting an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow, they study the functions of an animal and make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats.
“Ryerson gives students hands-on opportunities to explore science in a meaningful, hands-on, and fun way within their community,” said Teacher Sue Vani.
