Anxiety is the body’s natural way to react to stress. Anxiety is the normal emotion that every human has however there are any people who suffer from anxiety disorder. This affects their day to day lifestyle, due to constant fear and nervousness, these emotions can alter a persons behaviour towards themselves and other.

Causes:
Any type of abuse or traumatic event
Stress overload from work or school
Genetics and different personality types can impact the likelihood of devolving an anxiety disorder.
Death or loss of a loved one.
Strategies:
Staying active
Journal writing
Limiting alcohol and caffeine
Doing hobbies you enjoy such as cooking, dancing, sports, etc.
Treatments: Medication such as anti depressants and benzodiazepines
Going to a therapist or a psychiatrist
Going to a loved one to seek support
Facts about anxiety
- In 2009, 4% of youth (12 to 19 years) and 5.8% of young adults (20 to 29 years) in Canada were diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
- Anxiety disorders affect 5% of the household population, causing mild to severe impairment.
- In 2013, an estimated 3 million Canadians (11.6%) aged 18 years or older reported that they had a mood and/or anxiety disorder.
- Most people with mood and/or anxiety disorder(s) are currently taking, or have taken, prescription medication(s) (93%), but few (20%) have received psychological counselling to help manage their disorder(s).
