Definition
Arboviruses are viruses transmitted by mosquitoes, ticks, or other anthropods.
Examples of an arbovirus
- Encephalitis
- Dengue
- Yellow Fever
- West Nile
Diagnosis
Serologic tests and viral culture are available for diagnostic testing for evidence of infection of arboviruses.
Arbovirus Frequency
Globally, dengue is the most common arboviral disease, with 40% of the world population living in areas with dengue virus transmission. There is about 100 million cases annually, but only a small percent of those result in death.
Possible Complications
Some of the diseases can result in death if not treated.
Target Audience
It mostly targets people over 50 with a weak immune system.
