A Look At Our Week.....
It was wonderful to have a whole 5 days to our week! We have finished all of our reading assessments, and will be sharing all this information with you this week via report card. Report cards will be coming home on Wednesday, and they contain information on your child's academic and social development. I will also send home their reading assessment data, this will give you ideas on how to support your child's development at home. Thank you for all your support from home this year. Every single child is making progress!
English Language Arts - In writing we will be focusing on to writing "How-To" books. We will also be reading lots of "How-To" books to immerse ourselves in the language of the genre. We continue to work on memorizing sight words, decoding CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant words like van, pet, dip), and learning how to write our uppercase letters.
Math: We are decomposing numbers to 10 in different ways; using numbers and addition notation to record how many; counting and representing quantities and making equivalent sets; and adding to or subtracting from one quantity to make another quantity. We are also working a lot on recognizing and writing our teen numbers. Please take a minute to check that your child can write the numbers 10-20.
Science: It's GROUNDHOG DAY!!! We will be watching the Groundhog emerge on Friday (on the News!!) and we will be talking about shadows. When the sun comes out again, enjoy playing with your shadows together outside, or grab a flashlight at bedtime and make some shadows. Ask your child: Why do shadows happen?
Social Studies: DId you know that your child often has a job in our classroom? Ask them today what their favorite job is, and why!
Report Cards
I will be reaching out to schedule conferences with some of you to ensure that your child reaches grade level expectations by the end of the year.
