Newsletter Week 10 Term 2
Pekapekarau Primary School - 7th July 2022
Kia ora ē te whānau
Well we have made it through what seems to be one of the toughest terms of illness we have had in quite some time. Thank you for your support when we have had staff away sick, or keeping your own tamariki home when they are not feeling 100%. Stopping the spread of bugs is essential to helping keep us all well and at school for learning and fun.
Despite this we have continued with so many opportunities again this term for our tauira - winter sports, mentoring, kapa haka, passion projects, tuakana/teina buddy classes, life education with Nicky and Harold, and our pekapeka art exhibition.
Our fundraising team managed to raise around $875.00 with the food and glo sticks etc. Special thanks to Property Brokers for their kind donation of all of the ingredients for the sausage sizzle - we really appreciate your ongoing support for our school.
A piece of news to share with you all is that we have been successful in obtaining a grant for creating a large mural on the wall down our driveway. We look forward to working with Joe McMenamin on this exciting project. Check out his Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/mrjoemcmenamin He also has free learn to draw classes on his website https://classes.joemcmenamin.com/ .
I have been thoroughly spoilt this week by our amazing team for Tu Meke Tumuaki Week with lots of gifts, treats and acts of kindness. All of which were completely unexpected as I feel super lucky to work with such an awesome team but it is a great reminder that even the smallest of gestures can make such a difference to an individual.
Our team has already been planning lots of exciting opportunities for Term 3, as well as writing reports for your tamariki to share at the end of week 1 of next term. We hope that you all have a fantastic break to recoup and refresh, ready for an action packed Term 3.

Sharing from Room 3
Room 3 loved learning more about pekapeka from Harvey and Kerry when they visited our school a few weeks ago.

We have been working with the Department of Conservation to learn more about bats (Pekapeka) and raise awareness.
There is still time to fill out the Google Survey. There are prizes up for grabs. Click the link above
Winter Sports
We hosted other Te Awamutu Schools for Winter Sports last week. Our Year 5 and 6 tauira had a fun day. We were in the final for Turbo Touch, and won Tapuae! We can't wait until next year.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Reece who won the Property Brokers nationwide colouring competition for the 9-13 year old group. He even got a star named after him as his prize!
Thanks Nicky for presenting this at our assembly last week.

School Board Elections
The school board elections are coming up with nominations opening mid July. We will share more about that process soon. For now, we would like to invite anyone interested in running for the Pekapekarau School Board to meet with the Board to ask any questions and see what the work of the Board looks like. Our Chairperson, Erinna Lane will be in the staff room on Monday, 4th July 5.30pm-6pm to catch up with any interested nominees. If these times do not suit, please email botchair@pekapekarau.school.nz to ask any questions or make another time.
We are welcoming new enrolments to our Kura! Do you know someone who is interested in enrolling their tamariki at our school? This also includes out of zone enrolments.
Share this with whānau that you know.
