Grateful for November
Just like that it is November! We have 6 weeks left of learning in the year of 2017! That is just 30 days of instruction! WOW! We are excited to get in 3 weeks before we have a week off for Thanksgiving.
We have tryouts for both girls and boys basketball this week. Our gym floor is getting resurfaced to prepare for basketball so we will have girls practice at BCHS and boys practice at BCES. Also, our PE classes will be outside all week, 7th graders should bring a sweatshirt in case they are "Georgia cold" :)
This also impacts our breakfast. Scholars will be eating breakfast in Homerooms this week.
Our focus for the next three weeks other than quality instruction is integrating the theme of gratefulness into our daily routines and actions.
We are proud to celebrate our Veteran's with our annual Veteran's Day Assembly on Friday November 10th at 9:30 am in the BCHS gym.We invite all families to send in a picture of a family member who has or is serving in our Armed Forces. We will scan the photo and add it to our Veterans Day slide show. Please submit these as soon as possible. All submissions should be placed in an envelope with the student's name so that we can return it after scanning it. Students may turn these into their homeroom teacher or give them directly to Mrs. Opper. Please note that we are adding these submissions to our existing slide show.
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! Quarter two is going to be as fast and elite as quarter one and you don't want to miss a beat!

Map Testing- Reports and Goals
Winter Map Testing Window: November 29th - December 20th
Our next session of winter MAP testing begins right after our Thanksgiving holiday. We will be using our goal setting from WIN to track these next four weeks as we prepare to test in Reading, Language Usage, and Math. I can't wait to see how much we have grown! We will have MAP reports available for parents at our November 7th Parent Univeristy night! Join us for lots of great information and resources!
Notes from Ms. Raeburn
I had the honor to celebrate our Teacher of the Year at the BOE meeting on Thursday. Mrs. Blaine Ennis is an elite educator who was born and raised in Pembroke! She is a TRUE Redskin. When I ask our scholars to describe her, they say she is:
- kind
- caring
- passionate
- excited
- organized
- beautiful
- awesome teacher
Are there any better words to describe an elite educator? It has been one of my greatest privileges as the Proud Principal of BCMS to celebrate her and her have her represent our schoolhouse and all the work we are doing to increase our achievement.
Speaking of achievement, our CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) measure will be released soon. I will hold several Morning Coffees and Afternoon Snack sessions to discuss what the scores mean for us and what we are doing specifically in our schoolhouse to raise achievement. We have a Parent University event coming up on November 7th where we will be holding two sessions on grading and Literacy at home. We really would love to see you and share with you some awesome tips and strategies to help you understand your middle level learner's academic achievements.
Please take some time to read our School and Parent Compact form. We sent them home last week and need the signed copy returned. If you need another copy, please call us and we can send one home. You can also read the compact here:
We are proud of the relationship we are building with our families and our parents are we work to grow our scholars! All of our Title I information can be found on our BCMS website under the "Student/Parent" tab.
On October 31st we are allowing scholars to wear hats to school for free! They can wear spooky hats or halloween themed hats, but not heads of costumes, please!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
Your partnership and commitment to making #BeBCMS the best middle school on the planet is truly outstanding! Let's make this week ELITE!

WIN period is an elite time for our scholars to work on goal setting, grade checking, acceleration of curriculum, and enrichment. Please ask your child what goals they are working on during WIN time! I love seeing all the scholars discovering new interests and passions!
The current WIN Schedule looks like this:
Monday- Goal setting and Grade Checking- Goals are set based on Reading RIT MAP scores
Tuesday- Enrichment and Remediation Rotations begin!
