Good afternoon, Mustangs!
Please be sure that you have registered to vote or that you do so very soon. This Election Day on November 6 is very important to our Lexington families and students. Students do not go to school on this day so I encourage you to make this a planned family event. This models for our students that our voices matter!
During this election, there will be three seats open on our School Board. You may visit our District's website to learn about each candidate who is running. If you click on their names you will find individual information as well as dates of the forums in which you can attend to learn more.
Please do note that students do not come to school on Friday, October 12, as this is a Parent/Teacher Conference Day. Teachers will be scheduling or have already scheduled conferences. Needless to say, not all conferences can be held in one day's time so know that your teacher will be working with you to schedule one. Our goal is to conference with 100% of our parents. Together we will bring success to your child or children!
Mustang Fest is right around the corner! Mark your calendars for Friday, October 19, 5:00-8:00 p.m. This is the best family event of all times!!!
It is also very important to note that the Collaborative Planning Day was moved from October 24 to October 17 (which was the original date on the Student Handbook/Calendar). This was adjusted to allow instructional time right before high school students take their nine-week exams. The three (3) weather makeup days during the second semester will also be used to make up for three of the four days we were out of school. More to come on the decision about the fourth day we missed.
Enjoy the weekend! Read and workout together as a family!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary School
Please make the following corrections in your Student Handbook and Calendar for October:
October 17, 2018 -- 11:40 a.m. Early Dismissal
October 26, 2018 -- Report Cards Issued (not on October 25)
We apologize that these corrections did not make it to printer of calendars on time.

Congratulations to Midway's District Honor Choir Representatives
Music teachers Miss Trent and Mrs. Rogers are proud to announce Midway’s District Honor Choir representatives. Fifth graders Taylor Glover, Emilia Guevara, and Morgan Nesmith were selected through an audition process to be members of the Lexington One Children’s District Honor Choir.
The audition, which is performed for three judges, requires each student to sing “America” (My Country ‘Tis of Thee) as a solo without piano accompaniment and to sing the F Major scale as a solo without accompaniment. One hundred one Lexington One fifth and sixth graders competed for a spot in the 53-voice honor choir.
The District Honor Choir will rehearse on Tuesday afternoons at Pleasant Hill Middle School. The choir will perform on the steps of the State House for the Governor’s Carolighting on November 26th. The District Honor Choir will conclude its season with a final performance on March 14, 2019 at the Lexington One Performing Arts Center.
Congratulations Taylor, Emilia, and Morgan!
WILD WILD WEST MUSTANG FEST COMING SOON! FRIDAY OCTOBER 19th!
Mustang Fest Volunteers
Hello Parents! Our school carnival is fast approaching! Mustang Fest is a fun, family friendly event that the PTO puts on with help and support of Sponsorships from local business owners. Our teachers will work all of the games, inflatables, and booths so that we can enjoy the event with our families! We will need help behind the scenes.
We need volunteers to help with Set up, Clean up, selling hats/bandanas the week of Mustang fest in the mornings, judging the boot coloring contest and hanging them up in the school. Please consider volunteering! We need your help to make this event happen!
Thank you, Stacy Eubanks - Midway PTO, Mustang Fest chair

We Are So Excited
to
Have Male Mentors
We have a group of men that are willing to come once a week and read, help with projects, throw the football, shoot hoops, have lunch, play board games, etc. with our male students. Several of these programs exist throughout the district and other neighboring districts and are very successful.
If you are interested complete the information below and return to school. For more information you can contact Mrs. Gray, one of our school counselors. We are excited and can’t wait to watch these amazing relationships form.
