PANTHER PROWL
CIMARRON MIDDLE SCHOOL January 2018
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome back and welcome to second semester! I hope you had a wonderful winter break. I am excited it is January for many reasons, especially as we welcome back our students for a new semester.
This semester brings excitement (and sadness) as we see our 8th graders prepare for high school. Watch for details as Freshman orientation and enrollment, tours, Parent's night, and other fun events are just around the corner. Also, first-semester report cards are now available on the parent portal. Please log in and check your students’ progress.
Second semester is a fun and busy time for Cimarron. Students will be enrolling in classes for next school year (February-March), state testing takes place (April) and the weather begins to call us outdoors. To help your student be successful it is important to encourage them to really “dig in” these first nine weeks of the semester. This is the longest stretch we have during the year without a long break, and one of the most valuable for our students to grow academically.
I am excited to see all of the wonderful things the students will be learning in the months ahead and as always, if you have any questions please feel free to call or email!
It is an honor to be the principal of Cimarron,
Mr. Ehrich

MEDIA CENTER NEWS
New Year, New Fresh Book Shelves! Cimarron will be having another Used Book Sale this spring to benefit the library, and it is only possible with your help. As you start your new year organization, please gather any books you would like to donate. We will be selling all levels of books, from babies' board books to adult fiction and non-fiction. The only requirement is that they still be in decent shape so others will want to purchase them. This sale is beneficial to both the library and our students - $1 paperback and $2 hardback prices allow students that wouldn't normally be able to buy books to build their personal libraries, and all money earned goes directly into buying new books for our school collection. Watch further newsletters for specific dates on when you can begin to send in your donations!
Book Club continues to meet every Tuesday afternoon until 3:45pm. If your student loves reading, we would love to have him/her join us! January is Fantasy month - Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson, and The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. Have your student stop by the library to check out his/her grade's book!
Snow is falling, books are calling... Okay, maybe there's no actual snow, but Baby, It IS Cold Outside! I read books of all levels, so if either you or your student needs a great recommendation for these frigid winter days, contact me in the library at laura.maple@edmondschools.net, and we'll find the perfect novel for you to enjoy. So build that fire, warm up that hot chocolate, and settle in for a great read!
