Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language

Hello Fronteras Families!

With the end of the school year approaching, information regarding final assignment due date, laptop return process, and our modified field day plans, will be shared via mass messages, Class Dojo, & Google Classroom. In addition, our Kindergarten and Middle School teachers will communicate Graduation and Promotion plans as they are finalized.

All student report cards are available in your ParentVUE account. If you have the app, log into your ParentVue account, click on "Report Card" and your child's grades will appear. If you do not have the app, go to the main district website at www.matsuk12.us, click on "parents" link, click on "ParentVue", login to your account, click on "Report Card".

If you would like to go to paperless report cards, please send Kami an email at kami.koecher@matsuk12.us and she will change the status in your ParentVUE account. Let's save some trees!

Fronteras Spring Online Talent Show 2020

Optional Fronteras Student or Family Talent Show--Celebrate your athletic, artistic or musical talents as a family or individually with your recorded performance that is under one minute long. Families and/or individual students are invited to submit a recorded talent on YouTube. We will review and select a top list and give our commentary on awards for example "most creative goes to...." Our intention is this platform will allow everyone to be able to watch all submissions/videos who chose to participate as well as celebrate a few stand out performances.

How to Submit:

1. Upload your video to YouTube
2. Make sure your privacy settings are “Public”
3. Send a link to your video to alexis.roe@matsuk12.us
   
   *disclaimer* You are voluntarily uploading your video to YouTube which is a public platform. Anyone can see your video. This makes it a great place to post our Talent Show for all to see. Your video will be added to a public playlist of all talent submissions and then sent out in a link for families to watch.

   Monday April 27th--Announcement of Talent Show--Select your talent or talents to perform and practice your routine. Remember all submissions must be under one minute long
   
   Monday May 11th-Video submissions due, Teachers will review and select award recipients
   
   May 18th-last week of school--links and finalists announced and Fronteras invited to watch

The yearbook ordering deadline has been extended to 5-8-20!

All orders will be shipped directly to your home. TreeRing has graciously lowered the ship-to-home charge from $7.99 to $2.99, due to COVID19 and continuing Social Distancing Standards.

All orders placed previously, will be shipped to your home at no extra charge. Please log in to make sure your mailing address is correct. Make sure to take advantage of the option to customize your student’s yearbook! There are 2 pages, it is fairly simple(there are ideas and templates you can use) and it’s FREE! If you have more pictures than you know what to do with…it’s only .99 cents for two more pages! The yearbooks should be shipping by mid-June. If you missed all of the deadlines, there will be a limited number of yearbooks available at the beginning of next year.

Below are two options for middle school students who wish to engage in summer learning from home:

1. Apex Tutorials: June 1st to July 22nd (6-8 grade)

Students can choose the grade level and content area. A pretest will determine which units will be given and let students skip content they have already mastered. All middle school

math, language arts, science, and social studies classes are available. If a student has gaps in their knowledge, the pretest will let them know by assigning units they have not mastered yet. Mandatory online orientation is required for both the student and a parent/guardian. Sign up on the MSBSD Summer Programs web page. Go to the Accelerated Learning section and click on the link under Enrollment, which will be live May 1st. https://www.matsuk12.us/summerprograms.

2. High School Credit: June 1st to July 22nd (8th grade transitioning to high school)

Students can get an early start on high school and earn .5 credit in Apex Civics, Health, Pre- Algebra, and more to free up time for sports, music, etc. during the regular school year. Sign up will take place via the MSBSD Summer Programs web page. Go to the Accelerated Learning section and click on the link under Enrollment, which will be live May 1st. Mandatory online orientation is required for both the student and a parent/guardian to learn the Apex platform and the requirements for turning in work for credit. Proctored unit testing and final

exam will be done via Zoom. https://www.matsuk12.us/summerprograms.

The 2020 Census operations timeline has been extended due to COVID-19. All Alaska households will now have until October 31, 2020 to respond. If you have not responded, it is easier than ever to respond online at my2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020 to make sure you are counted.
