A Note from Mr. Bender
Dear Families,
Spring is in the air, and we are looking forward to our final week of school before Spring Break. Please remember that GCPS is following CDC guidance regarding travel outside of the U.S. Students that travel outside of the U.S. will not be able to return to school for at least 7 days. If you will be traveling outside of the U.S. this spring, please contact the front office.
March Reading Rewards logs are due Thursday, April 1. April reading logs will go home on Friday, April 2nd. Remember to read over Spring Break!
The Georgia Milestones Assessment will be administered to students in grades 3-5 during the testing window of April 22 - May 26. Students will participate in ELA, Math, and Science (5th grade only). Times for each section range from 45 minutes up to 90 minutes. On testing days, students will have about an hour of testing, and then continue instruction and normal school activities the rest of the day. More information regarding Milestones will be shared in the coming weeks.
Have a great weekend!

You are an important partner with your child’s teacher, whether your child is learning at home or at school. To help you support your child’s learning, GCPS is launching a new initiative called AKS at Home. With this project, families will learn ways to help their child practice skills they are learning in class as part of the district’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. Parents have access to a library of recorded sessions and tip-sheets. Find more information on the AKS at Home web page.
**NEW DATES FOR 4th QUARTER HAVE BEEN ADDED!**
Your counselors are available for individual sessions with digital students during office hours or by appointment. Check out our eCLASS page to speak with us and for other resources!
Character Word of the Month: Cooperation
The character trait for the month of March is Cooperation. We define cooperation as working together to get something done. Kids practice this when they are working together on a group project, reading a book, or completing an assignment together. Teachers will choose one student in their class that exhibited cooperation the most for the month of March to represent their class as the Cub of the Month.
Women's History Month
Check out read-aloud books by your counselors on our eCLASS page for Women’s History Month in March! Look under “Content” to find books featuring incredible women in history!
Reading Rewards
All March reading logs are due on or before April 1. I hope you have met the requirement of reading at least 20 minutes of more for 20 different days in March!
The goal of our Reading Rewards program is to help students develop a consistent habit of reading. The monthly requirement is to read, outside of school hours, at least 20 minutes a day for at least 20 days of the month. Students are expected to list book titles and minutes read on each of the 20 dates that are logged on the form. Parents must initial each of the entry dates.
For students to be recognized, the reading log must be turned in on time and considered complete. Students can complete and submit a paper or digital log. The digital log can be found on the school home page of eCLASS. The digital log is an editable pdf file that can be downloaded and saved to your computer at home. Once complete the digital log is submitted as an eCLASS assignment.
Reading logs can be turned into your teacher anytime you have finished the requirements. No logs should be received before the 21st of each month.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, please email Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.

The final votes are being counted! The Woodward Mill Georgia Picture Book favorite nominee will be shared after spring break. Thanks to all of the classes that have read and voted on their favorite book.
